Jessie

Jessie (formerly Jessie Grace) found her forever home with us in January of 2008. She was not our original pick - having allergies we were searching for a less hairy friend, perhaps a poodle mix. A trip or two in (and misses!) didn't stop us though, and we were constantly combing the website in hopes of finding our new family member.

Jessie's online picture stole our hearts! - even with all her hair!! We knew she was the one. We raced down to APR determined that we would not walk away empty-handed again and while I waited outside with the other adopters my husband took my two young boys inside and imagine their surprise when our own Jessie came walking by with her foster Dad...she came right up to my youngest and licked his face! It was a done deal.

Jessie was about six months old and 60 pounds when we adopted her. While she had some basic manners, she was young and spirited and she quickly made short work of woodwork, toys, shoes, and pretty much anything she could get hold of! We tamed the chewing fairly quickly and she just settled in as if she'd always lived here.

Jessie is now 85 pounds and a good double for a Yeti, or as the kids refer to her, Chewbacca (though two of the pictures I submitted show her with her "summer" trim). She even talks like Chewbacca on Star Wars! She's a great dog - loves her family - loves her walks - loves her yard - and very much loves her new little kitten friend (a poor waif that strolled up to the door after the floods last September!) Jessie is full of character and personality and pretty much has taken over the house (and the sofa, and the bed). We're still not sure what else she is other than a Golden, but whatever it is...it's BIG!

Keep up the great work APR!!

  1. I remember Jessie well from her days at APR. We called her tiger eyes. What a beautiful girl. My oh my did she grow up (and up, and up)! We are so thrilled to see her so happy and well-loved!
