Buddy's favorite chair

Hi. We adopted Buddy (formerly Iggy) just a short time ago but he has already become a full member of the family. He has picked out his favorite chair. It is right by a bay window so that he can enjoy the sun and a view of the passers by on the street. He has really bonded with our 9 year old Jack Russell Sadie and enjoys running around the dog park with his new big sister. Thanks again to all at APR for our great new addition!

Mojo

We adopted Mojo, a Boston terrier mix, in May 2010. It is now almost August and we absolutely love him. He is perfect for our family and he brings us laughter every day. He is very smart; he knows how to sit and stay and we are working on heel. He only wants to please us. We recently learned that he does not like storms and that brings out our maternal instincts that much more. He is a champion at cuddling! He loves to hang out with us and follows us all around the house. He loves to sleep with our daughter and she loves playing catch with him. She has also been known to dress him up on occasion. He tolerates that like a real trooper!

He has been a wonderful addition to our family and we want to thank you for introducing us and trusting us with his care. We love him very much and he is very happy here.
Thanks Atlanta Pet Rescue!!! We will recommend you whenever possible!

Sincerely,
Martha McAleese and Renee and Talia Ferrerio

Best gift ever

We got Bogey (formerly Bogie) February 7th 2009. He's been the best dog anyone could ask for. He has brought soooooo much love and joy to our life! Atlanta Pet Rescue is the most wonderful place and not only does it give pets new lives and homes, but it gives people the chance to have pure love and companionship in their lives.

Sadie (formerly Rory)

Just wanted to let you all know (especially Kathy- our adoption interviewer) that Rory (now Sadie) is doing really well. She seems to have found her place in our home and is a happy little girl. We are loving her sweet personality and she is so good with our son. We have all enjoyed playing with her, cuddling her and teaching her tricks. We are even making good progress with housebreaking. She had her first visit to the vet on Monday and besides a little kennel cough, she is doing well. Thank you so much for saving her life and bringing her into ours. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Kelley

Thank you for our Angel

Nearly five years ago, our sweet baby Grady, then known as "Sasha" at APR, came into our lives. She has the sweetest spirit of anyone I have ever known - canine or human. The journey has not been easy: she has had back problems (the catalyst being an injury brought on by the circles she turns when she is waiting for her food!) and had major surgery nearly two years ago. She doesn't mind though, as this requires that she now be carried up and down stairs, and the more carrying for her, the better! She also has her very own Grady stroller for long walks, where she barks at every dog she sees from above. Grady LOVES sweet potatoes, and really vegetables of all kinds. She also has food allergies, so she eats delicious, fresh food that is gluten free! She is a complete and total princess, and she was our first child. We now have a 3 month old baby girl (human) and were concerned that Grady would be jealous or even aggressive. Not only is she not aggressive, she is protectiv
e of our baby and is very respectful of her. When I first saw Grady online and later at APR, she was in a foster home being treated for heart worms. When we first met in person, she wore the tiniest little pink sweater as she had very little hair - it was all gone as a result of her allergies. Still, she was so precious, I could not believe that she was still available. She is truly one of the greatest blessings I have ever received. Also - as an aside, I adopted her two months after my (now) husband and I began dating. When we married two months ago, we instead of distributing parting gifts to our guests, we donated to APR in her honor. I only wish we could do more!

I would love to know the "angels" who rescued her from being put down in an Alabama pound, or the kind person who took her into their foster home to nurse her back to health. To these kind souls, I am truly grateful, and only hope that we can do the same to help another doggie and doggie mom unite one day. Thank you so much for all that you do. Sincerely, Amanda and Mark Brandenburg, and Grady

Tanner (formerly Buddie)

Finally, here are some pictures of Tanner. He has an even better story. It turns out that when he was originally found in May it was my brother-in-law's neighbor who found him! I guess the little guy was trying to find a Pickren home and he got close to one in Atlanta but eventually ended up in our home in Decatur after passing through Atlanta Pet Rescue. We are enjoying the little guy immensely and as you can see from the pictures he's settling in quite nicely! He is spoiled, is the king of our home and has a neighbor who comes in twice a day to walk him and her 2 dogs, then he plays and naps with them on the days that my husband I both work. He's a happy and very lucky dog! Enjoy the pictures and thanks! Susan

Dusty (formerly Mister)

I found out about Atlanta Pet Rescue in late 2008, when my sweet little orange tabby Lance wandered out of my life just as inexplicably as he wandered into my life. During all the time I spent searching shelters and web sites with hope he had turned up somewhere, I was mesmerized by the stories of the animals on the APR site. Some months later, when I decided to add to my feline family, I made several visits to Atlanta Pet Rescue. I was looking for a kitty who could hold its own against my beautiful, sweet, but undeniably Alpha female, Star. I was intrigued by a young kitty who seemed very mellow during my visits, and decided to take him home. One year later, Dusty has blossomed into a handsome young kitty who is very curious, friendly and certainly entertaining! He loves to play with his adopted sister Calli, and, after more than a few growls and scratches on the nose, has come to a respectful understanding with his big sister Star. He wakes me every morning and is the firs
t to greet me when I come home at the end of the day! He is a delightful little boy, and I am thankful for the opportunity to give him the love and attention he deserves. Thank you Atlanta Pet Rescue for all that you do!

Jim and Pam

I had been looking for a cat for awhile but wanted to wait on the right time and the right cat. I got exactly what I wanted. Jim and Pam (formally Linell and Lucille) have got to be the best cats I could have asked for. They have turned several of my "cat hating" friends into cat lovers and I often have friends arguing over cat sitting when I've gone out of town for the weekend. They love to play, but love even more to snuggle. Jim's favorite spot is the bathroom sink, although Pam has joined him a time or two. Pam loves to snuggle up right under my chin and watch The Office(hence the names) or take a nap. They are also very interested in any beverages that I leave around as you can see from the pictures. I love every second I get to spend with them. Thanks for all you do APR!

Bella...1 year later

On July 9, 2009, we adopted Bella! That day, we had several other dogs picked out from your website, but most of them had been adopted by the time we arrived. There was lots of excitement there that day, but we noticed this beautiful dog just quitely relaxing through all the barking and activity. We asked to meet Bella, but someone else had asked to see her first. While we visited with a few other dogs, we kept looking over at the kind woman who was meeting with Bella. She noticed how sweet our boys were being to the dogs and she said that Bella was meant to be with us. We took her home that day and she has been a great addition to our family. Although she certainly likes a good nap, she also loves to take hikes and fetching a ball. She is sweet natured and will allow anyone to give her a belly rub. Everywhere we take her, people ask what kind of dog she is. We just know she is a terrier mixed with something. We don't really care what kind of dog she is, we just love
our Bella!

Poppy and Snickers

Our family just wanted to follow up with you and let you know how Poppy (aka Sushi) and Snickers (aka Gacy) are doing. We couldn't be happier with the addition of these wonderful animals to our house. They are both sweet, fun and social cats that have not missed a beat since coming home. They not only tolerate the kids, they seem to really love them back. We cannot imagine our lives without these 2!!

Thank you for all of your help.

Best,
Barbara Ghegan (and Sophia, Alden, Jack and Dad)

Maxwell in the Tub!

Hopefully our photo makes it this time.

This photo was taken at the groomer's in Charlotte. We go once a week for a medicated bath that gets rid of Maxwell's itchies. He's my boy!

RUFUS

Drew is now Rufus, and what a GREAT boy he is!! So far it's been a seamless transition. He's gentle, playful, obedient, cheerful, and affectionate. He's trying hard to get Tonka and Dixie to play with him. Dixie is very intrigued and is coming around quickly. Tonka's fine with him but mostly just pooped right now--he's in his bed in a semi-coma! (Big adventure, the trip to APR.)

We fed and played with Rufus til he was worn out--he's found lots of toys here he likes. He's now sprawled out full length on the sofa beside me (dead to the world) as I write this.

Thanks so much to everybody for your efforts in helping us adopt Drew/Rufus.

Fiona and Chandler Update

Fiona (formerly Christa) and Chandler (formerly Billie) have been with us for a month now. They are adapting well and seem to be enjoying their new lives. They love the grass and yard at their GA home and they especially love the screened porch at their NC home. They spend all of their time out sniffing and looking when we are there.

Chandler is a ball of energy and is the apple of everyone's eye. The boys next door ring our bell and ask to come in and play with our boy. He loves his toys and is very possessive but loves to have you tug on his stuffed animals and throw his tennis ball.

Until recently, Fiona didn't know how to play, but has discovered my flying monkey and she loves to make it scream. She is starting to warm up to other toys but it is obvious she never played before we adopted her. So many things are new to her - the grass, trees rustling in the breeze, the harness, and people! When we have company she sits in my lap and watches things going on around us.

We are still potty training but I think we are making some progress. They went to the groomer for the first time last Friday and both did really well. They look really cute. Fireworks and storms have been a problem for Fiona and we are working on trying to make her less stressed. Chandler barks at the fireworks and is oblious to the storms.

We are very happy with our new babies. They are bringing us much joy. Thanks to every one at Atlanta Pet Rescue for bringing us together! Here are pictures of Chandler sitting on his Dad's lap looking totally content and Fiona playing with her flying monkey. Believe it or not, Chandler is afraid of it!

Max (formerly Charlie)

We adopted Charlie, now Max, three weeks ago. I wanted to update you. He is doing wonderfully. Although still shy, he is warming up to us and won our heart the first night. Still unsure of the small dog park, he does love walks around the neighborhood, waits at the door when he needs to go to the bathroom (potty trained- yay!), and loves his peanut butter bones. I have attached some photos I recently took.

Thank you so much for making our family complete. We love Max and feel so lucky that we ended up with the cutest, sweetest dog around:) We might be slightly partial.

Maddie (formerly Rumer)

It has been over 4 months since I adopted Rumer, who is now Maddie, from your wonderful organization, and I'm so glad that she's a part of my family! I am thrilled to report that she is now officially heartworm-free, and I couldn't be happier that you were able to give her the second chance she so deserved.

She has really come out of her shell over the past few months, and is a vivacious, hyper-intelligent, loyal pup who's never met a person she didn't like! I was lucky enough to have her come to me totally housetrained and understanding some basic commands, and it was clear whatever she'd been through did not affect her attitude toward humans. We did deal with some pretty run-of-the-mill Separation Anxiety issues when she first joined me, but with some help from Mara at Atlanta Dog All-Stars (an APR recommendation) and some hard work from both Maddie and me, I can now leave her for the day and head to work worry-free!

Maddie loves to spend time going on runs or long walks, sleeping on her chair, curling up next to me to watch TV, chasing squirrels, chewing rawhide, chewing rawhide, and chewing more rawhide. I have never seen a dog so in love with rawhide. In order to ensure she doesn't eat it too quickly, I have to buy the rawhide designed for 75 lb dogs! Maddie also completed her first road trip getaway with Mom last weekend, and she was the star of the trip, hamming it up with some of my closest friends who had all come together for a celebration. And she'll hit the beach for the first time in August during a family vacation to Hilton Head.

During her time at APR, I'm told she didn't necessarily always play well with other dogs, and I'm glad to say that now that she knows she will not be going back to doggy jail, she loves other dogs! Especially big ones! She very much likes spending time with her yellow and chocolate lab friends, and thinks she is just one of the big guys when she hangs out with them. She's great with people and kids, too, and I constantly have people stopping me to ask where I got such an adorable dog, and what kind of mix she is that makes her so cute!

So, THANK YOU, Atlanta Pet Rescue! Not only did you give a sweet, smart, loving dog a second chance at life and happiness, but you also gave her the chance to bring great happiness into the lives of others! She is a true joy, and I can't imagine my life without her! If you ever forget what a great thing it is that you're doing, remember that you're not only helping animals in a truly meaningful way, you're also helping the people that adopt the dogs more than you could ever imagine! I can't thank you enough.

I've attached some pictures of my little stinker (including one at Bark in the Park) for you to enjoy. We hope to see you all at an event sometime soon!

Much Love,
Kathy (and Maddie)

P.S. I have been meaning to write, but was even further inspired when I looked at your adoptables today and saw a dog named Maddie who looks like she could be my Maddie's sister! I hope she also finds a wonderful place to call home.
P.P.S. Maddie is also a local celebrity! She is so adored by the folks at greendog, the doggy daycare and boarding facility she frequents, that they asked her to be a part of their filming for Fox 5 Atlanta's Good Day Atlanta. She only had a few seconds of screentime, but she knows she's a star!
