Littlebit (formerly Kelsey)

Some months ago I adopted a female hound mix named Kelsey (black & tan) from Atlanta Pet Rescue. She turned out a wonderful companion dog for Shady. I renamed her Littlebit and love her a whole lot. She is teaching Shady how to play, how to share, and how to be unafraid. Shady is teaching Littlebit how to behave like a watchdog, how to chew big bones and how to obey. I attached some pictures of the girls and want to thank you for all your help, Littlebit tail is still wagging at lightening speed. Greetings Nanda

Lilly

Back on Halloween of 2009, we had no intentions of adopting a dog unless we found "the one". We began our search at APR and instantly fell in love with an adorable poodle/terrier mix named Brownie. After adopting the white bundle of fur, we changed her name to Lilly, and have spoiled her rotten ever since!

During the 6 months in our home, she has completely changed our lives, as we have hers! She is SO happy, SO loving, and full of energy. Words don't express how lucky we are to have found such an amazing dog. We are incredibly grateful to you, Atlanta Pet Rescue, for helping Lilly find her ' forever home'!

Attached are 2 pictures: one from the day of adoption and one of her presently. What a difference some TLC and love makes!!

Bella & Leo

I adopted Beatrice or B (formerly Bella) and Chance (formerly Leo) last Friday. In less then a week they seem to be settling in quite nicely. B has been a cuddle bug since day one. She is also a crazy kitty who loves to wait for her brother to come walking by and pounce on him. Chance takes it all in stride and plays right along until he is bored and then goes and hides under the bed. I get requests for pets from both of them quite often, and I am happy to oblige.

The resident dog is still unsure of them, but the kitties have lots of patience with her so I am sure its only a matter of time before they are all best friends.

Happy Energy

Lennox (formerly Blanston) is loving his spoiled life in East Atlanta. He is the neighborhood "watch"dog alarming everyone that he is out for his morning walk and admonishing visitors and residents alike that their cars are traveling down the street too quickly. He looooooves his life and when it's time to rest up for the next day's work, he brings his family with him up to the bed in the guest room.

We love Lennox and thank Atlanta Pet Rescue for sharing him with us.

Buddy (Formerly Bat Dog)

Don't have any photos yet, but wanted to let you know how well Buddy has adjusted to our home and become a part of the family. He thinks that walks in our neighborhood are the best thing since crushed kibble! Thanks so much for helping make Buddy part of our family! He also says that he agrees that the name Bat Dog needed to be retired. ;-)

Tillie Hank (formerly Niko)

My fiance and I adopted Tillie, a tortoise calico, and Hank, a blue point siamese, as kittens exactly a year ago this month. We just celebrated their birthdays by strapping them in our new Baby Bjorn and walking them outdoors (we're expecting our first child in June and were "practicing" toting a baby with the cats--they loved it). They have been wonderful addtions to our household and lives; I call them my sweet precious angels (sometimes I think they roll their eyes when I say it). Despite what I had always heard about cats being aloof, overly independent and unloving, I have found nothing to be farther from the truth. Tillie and Hank are very capable of entertaining themselves with their many toys or by playing hide-and-seek with one another, but always welcome any interaction with us! Their favorite things to do are play on their 6 + ft. cat tower (courtesy of Santa), sit in the windows and "sun" themselves, chase each other up and down the stairs, and snooze curled
up on our bed. I grew up a dog lover, but these two have won my heart and changed the way I feel about cats in general. I highly recommend cat adoption for anyone seeking constant entertainment and added joy in their lives. We had a wonderful adoption experience with APR and wish all you adoptors the best. Cats are where it's at!!!!

Sierra

I adopted 2 dogs named Riley (formally Roofus) and Trooper from APR approx 8 years ago. I unfortunately, lost RIley last year to lymphoma and wanted to get Trooper a new friend. I fostered Sierra for about 2 1/2 weeks to make sure that she and my other dog Trooper would get along...Sierra was adopted on 5/14/2010. ..She was a bit bossy at first.(Still as at times) but she and Trooper are slowly becoming close friends. The attached picture of the two sleeping together, tells it's own story. A big thank you to all the workers and volunteers of APR for providing such needed care for homeless animals.

Ginger

Ginger was a female mixed poodle/terrier ?
Adopted in March 2004 under her APR name of Natalie.
In March of 2004 I lost my dog Tara, who was 17. She had been "the" dog for my three sons as they grew up. It was tough losing the connection to my boys' childhoods, but I figured I didn't need another dog just for me.
I went to APR in late March to donate the last of Tara's food. I saw Natalie jumping between pens and socializing with all the dogs. She was curly and poodle-like and looked like the first dog we had ever had.
I petted her through the fence, and of course, a volunteer brought out for me to just get to know. My heart was grieving, but the volunteer encouraged me to foster Natalie for a week. The next Saturday I was back with my granddaughter Amanda, who was 9 at the time, and I officially adopted Natalie and renamed her Ginger.
She adjusted quickly to my house and loved me and my ever expanding group of grandchildren. We added 6 more during the last 6 years. She taught them about how to pet dogs, bathe them, walk them and pick up poop. All of my grandchildren love dogs because of Ginger. In fact, one granddaughter was using the word Ginger in place of dog at first.
Ginger was the best dog, and she was truly my dog. She picked me out and loved me and kept me company at every step. Everyone who met her loved her brown eyes and her insistent way of getting petted. I really thought Ginger would be with me for many years.
But that wasn't to be. She developed lymphoma in November of 2009. My son, who is a veterinarian, helped with treatments and biopsies. None of us wanted to believe the diagnosis. She lasted two extra months, but her tumors slowed her down so much the last month. She was loved and played with, and she enjoyed her life to the end.
Thank you APR for a wonderful pet and the six years I had her.

Laney

We adopted Laney on Halloween this past year, heart worms and all! She is a great addition to our family. She has her quirks...like digging to find all the chipmunk super highway running under our back yard. Which means she brings in a lot of Georgia clay and therefore, gets a lot of foot and face baths! But she loves us and we love her.

She is now heart worm free! She travels with us, has learned lots of tricks, and loves her crate, and she shred ANY toy in under a minute (except Nylabones). I have even gotten refunds from companies who say their toys are indestructible (she shredded a KONG). Not bad for a 30 pound dog!

Midge

We adopted Midge at the beginning of 2010 after seeing her listed here on APR over the Christmas Holiday. She has turned out to be the best gift we could have gotten each other. She adopted us back almost immediately and has been the most loving, cuddly and quite amusing little dog we could ask for. She's making new neighborhood friends daily, and loves to play at every opportunity.

A big thanks to all the folks at APR for taking such good care of her in her time of need. Special thanks to her foster Mom Pam for giving her a temporary home.

You guys are the Best!

Eleanor May (formerly Reese)

I just wanted to let y'all know that Reese is WONDERFUL. She's Eleanor now :) and is right at home. She is sweet and laid-back and is all about getting hugs and kisses constantly. She went to the vet yesterday, and I was amazed at how calm she was during the whole visit.

I'm so glad she's my girl!

Thanks very much for making her possible for me.

Sophie

Sophie has been with us pushing two months now and has just been the best. She loves to play and we walk her tons so she has really toned up muscle-wise. People stop us constantly when we walk her to comment on how cute she is. We took her to the vet and all is well with her health. Judy Price worked with us on the day we adopted her so please pass along how well she is doing.

Miss Ellie

We adopted Miss Ellie (formerly "Erlene") from Atlanta Pet Rescue in May 2007. We have a dachshund/beagle mix named Lucy (picture attached). Lucy's former playmate went to Rainbow Heaven in January 2007. We have always had two dogs so they could keep each other company. A friend told us about Atlanta Pet Rescue so went to your web-site and found Miss Ellie. She is always into something, as you call tell by the picture! We love our "girls" and don't know what we would do without them.

Lily (formerly Patches)

I wanted to send a picture of Lily. We have had her for a little over a year now (April 15,2009). She has been tested and is negative for heartworms - she had just been treated when we adopted her. She is VERY sweet, loves EVERYBODY and we can't imagine not having her! Thanks for helping us find her!

Carter

Carter just turned 2 years old and he is the sweetest most wonderful pup ever! We love love love him! Our neighbors recently adopted a dog from ATL Pet Rescue, they are loving her, & that makes 3 friends who have adopted from ATL Pet Rescue.

A special thank you to everyone at ATL Pet Rescue for all the work you do!

Just thought you'd enjoy seeing how regal and grown up Carter is getting!

Best,
Wendy

Foxy Loxy (formerly Melody)

I adopted Foxy from APR back in October 09.

The vet took one look at her and said "that dog is part beagle" and sure enough... by the time she had her confidence up enough to bark, i learned this dog really knows how to make some noise.

Which is fine, because there's plenty of backyard for she and Piglet to prowl. Piglet is her big sissy, another rescue I've had since college. The two love each other so much that it melts my cold little Grinch heart.

Thank you APR for taking care of my sweet little demon Fox until I was ready for her!

Sally (formerly Madison)

While we didn't get to spend much time together b/c I swooped in and then was swooped out, I have come to find that I owe you a big thank you for rescuing me from the streets and saving my life. My life lately has been one big blur going from place to place and never stopping to look back. I've had babies, seen two animal shelters, gotten spayed and had people I've never seen before call me random names and look at me like I should know them. Last week a friendly girl took me in and bathed me and gave me some love. I've come to learn that this wonderful place that I have come to love in a short period of time will now be my forever home. After a brief identity crisis, I've gotten used to my new name, which is Sally. Apparently Madison was a family member's name and so that had to be changed.

I've enclosed some recent pics of me and my new family. Thank you Atlanta Pet Rescue for fighting the good fight for us four legged peeps. I love my new family and I know that they love me just as much. Us dogs know how hard you work day in and day out, many times with little to no thanks or recognition, and we are all eternally grateful for all you do.

Woofs and Kisses,
Sally (fka Madison)

Miss Daisy Mae

Here's our new little girl. She's a real doll. Special thanks to Elisa and Judy at Atlanta Pet Rescue for making this possible.

We believe, after some research, that she is a Mini Blue Heeler. Whatever she is, she's a sweetie and we will do all we can to give her the best possible forever home.

Best Regards,
John

Lacey

I adopted Lacey 8/1/09 and she has brought so much joy into my life. Lacey was a scared little thing when I first met her and was afraid of everyone she met. I am proud to say that she has come a long way and I swear I watch her becoming more and more confident with each day. She is extremely affectionate and sweet and will bathe you in kisses and cuddles if you let her. Training was a piece of cake with this smart little pup because she is so eager to please. She loves to curl up and cuddle, go on hikes, swimming, and playing fetch but her absolute favorite thing in the world is anything peanut butter flavored! She will do anything for one of her peanut butter doggie treats! Adopting Lacey was one of the best things I have ever done and I want send a huge thank you to everyone at APR and her foster parents for finding my little girl and taking such great care of her, the work you do is truly amazing!

We love APR!

WE LOVE APR! I have never been so happy to have a staff of volunteers, foster parents, and community members that care so much about the well-being of animals.

I was sad to see someone using the HAPPY TAIL blog to complain about their experience. I get on this blog to read the good stories about how much people love their APR pets!

Every event, every interaction, phone call etc. that I have had with APR has been outstanding, caring, and friendly. The staff is very knowledgeable and is concerned about where the pet might live. It is a hard realization but maybe a certain situation/home is not right for the potential adoptee and APR cares enough to NOT place a pet in a home that is not right. I am sad that anyone would ever give APR a negative review when all I hear is wonderful things about the group.

We love APR and are always telling friends about our HAPPY TAIL!

puppy love,

Johanna and Ollie

Abbott (adopted 8/11/07)

Just a quick update for Abbott's 4th birthday. He makes me laugh every single day, and he really could not be any sweeter (or smarter!). I've included a few pictures from his birthday, with his tuna "cupcake" - he loved it! Thank you, as always, for the opportunity to adopt him and spoil him. He rules the roost and we like it that way!
