Eddie (formerly Pirate)

I just wanted to write to you and let you know how happy we are with our little Pirate. His name is now Eddie and we've had him for 4 months now. We couldn't love him more! His mange is all gone, his kennel cough all clear and his true, sweet, playful personality has been showing through for months now. He is just as sweet as the day he was when we adopted him but we've learned that he's incredibly playful and a ball of fun. He's our best friend and we couldn't be more thankful for the Atlanta Pet Rescue for seeing potential in him and driving all the way to Tennessee to bring the little guy to your facility. Here's a picture of us enjoying the festivities with Eddie at the Splish Splash Doggie Bash last weekend.

On behalf of myself, Todd, and Pirate (Eddie),

THANK YOU!!!

Gigi is home!

Thank you so much for everyone's patience waiting for a Gigi update. I am SO happy to report that Little Miss Gigi is doing fantastic in her new home. For those who may be unfamiliar with her story, Gigi was brought in with a condition called Intervertebral Disc Disorder, possibly spirred on from a past abusive incident. She arrived with little bladder control due to terrible bladder stones, and very weak hind legs - her walk was affectionately deemed the "Gigi Swagger." Lucky for Gigi, Mara and Atlanta Pet Rescue had faith and they took Gigi on full force. Mara is a beautiful soul and started Gigi on the road to recovery with a proper diet, great rehab, and lots of love and affection. As soon as I saw Gigi in person I knew she was meant for me, and since the adoption Gigi has been seeing a chiropractor (who makes her homemade treats!) twice a week and is improving everyday. Her legs are stronger and stronger every visit and she is now running and jumping with the best of th
em. Her new brother, Finch, is loving her more and more everyday and the two of them have a blast playing and wrestling. Gigi is incredibly curious and gets into every possible thing she can. She adores everyone she meets and is always inviting new dogs to play with her. Gigi can hold it like a big girl these days, and her bladder issues appear to be resolved. Her hips are more level, and she walks, sits, stands, and jumps much more evenly on both legs. She has added an entirely new light to our house and she is an incredibly sweet, good dog. While there is lots of improvement still to be had, Gigi is doing great, and we really appreciate everyone who has cared so much. Thank you infinitely to Atlanta Pet Rescue, and especially Mara, for believing in the dog Gigi knew she could be. She looks forward to seeing you all again and we'll do a much better job at keeping in touch in the future. xoxo, Gigi, Finch, and Rachel

Lexie

We adopted Lexie (formerly named Lucy) in March of '09. She was sweet but seemed sad after living on the streets for a year before being rescued by Atlanta Pet Rescue. A year and a half later, Lexie has a new lease on life! She loves her walks and runs, romping in the backyard, and sometimes even joins her mom on the mountain bike trail. She has made a few trips to the beach and is fascinated with the sand crabs. She adores her yorkie sister and her feline brothers and sister. Thank you Atlanta Pet Rescue for giving Lexie the chance!

My New Life...By Izzie

Hello All!

I know it's been almost 2 years, but I wanted to let you all know how well I've been getting along! Since I left APR, I've had my name changed from Annette to Isabella. Although, most of the time, my mom and dad just call me Izzie for short. (I'm only Isabella when I'm being naughty, which is hardly ever!)

When I left APR, I was recovering from heart worms but I'm all better now! I love to run in the back yard, visit the dog park, play with my next door neighbor and APR Alum "Bear" and just sun myself on the front porch while watching passersby. I have plenty of doggie neighbors and I even get to go to doggie day camp 3 days a week to play with my camp pals!

These days it's good to be me cause I'm loved my my whole family! At Christmas, I get presents and everything...who knew that grand parents could be so cool? My dad says that my mom and I are two peas in a pod. We LOVE to just snoogle together and watch TV. But sometimes, I have to let her snoogle by herself while I chew on my bone.

Although sometimes mom says I'm spoiled rotten, I think I'm doing swell!

Love
Izzie

PS- My mom says thanks for taking such good care of me at APR while I waited for my forever home.

Birkin (used to be Bean)

My name is Birkin (formerly Bean) and I was adopted from APR on April 10,2010 by my new parents. While I loved everyone at APR and received great care, I am happy to be in my forever home! I feel like I have been with my new parents forever and I can't imagine how anyone could turn me in- even over a divorce! It is their loss and my new parents gain.
From Day 1, I have been showered with so much love and toys galore. I love soft toys in the forms of ponies, lions and foxes, but they rarely last I enjoy tearing them apart to find the pesky squeaker. Mom and Dad caught on quickly from the first day and I now LOVE my stuffless Bernie the Beaver. I love going outside, walking in Piedmont Park, attempting to chase squirrels, my Kong, snuggles in the morning and even getting dressed up like Uncle Sam. My parents joke that I am a little "King Ding", as I love being the center of attention and will climb up on the back of the couch to get between them. I have also learned how to play dead and "stick 'em up"- I will overcome my nemesis, Digger the Westie, on YouTube.
I am currently on a "weight loss journey", as I gained a few pounds after APR from all of the love and attention. I don't mind- it means more time in the park with my mom. I have also conquered my fear of separation and now love going into my room because it means my kong with peanut butter! I did scare them the first few days (well, only mom) because I came down with kennel cough and would not eat anything. However, my wonderful vet (Ansley Vet Clinic) gave me some medicine to make it go away.
I am so happy to be with people who will never give me up and shower me with such love and attention. Thank you for taking such great care of me while at APR! I will be sure to keep you updated and hope to see you at Yappy Hour in October- I am starting to search for the perfect costume!

xoxo

Ruby Tuesday, formerly Peaches

Hi everybody. It's me, Ruby Tuesday. I've been living with my new family for 18 months, and things are really great. Mom and Dad tell me I'm the best dog ever, and they can't imagine life without me. One thing's for sure, they laugh a lot when I'm around, and I'm always around! I also heard them say that they can't believe someone would dump a beautiful, smart, sweet girl like me in a crate beside a dumpster. What's a dumpster? Anyway, I don't remember that.

I look a lot different now, though. My coat was pretty thin when the nice folks at Atlanta Pet Rescue found me. Now it's so long and thick that I go to a groomer to get it trimmed and shaped. I sort of act differently, too. I was pretty shy and quiet at first, but now mom says my "pom personality is in full bloom." I love to meet people and am always up for a new adventure. I'm not one to bark much at all, except when I have something important to say like, "Can we do something fun now?" We have lots of conversations like that.

My life is pretty busy. It's a full-time job, just following mom and dad everywhere to make sure they're okay and I don't miss out on anything. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, getting treats out of my Kong toy (I'm really fast with that one), and going for walks. Actually, I love doing just about anything, even taking naps, if I get to be with my family. They even take me on vacation! I've been to the beach in Florida four times, and I'm going again next week with mom and some of her girlfriends. Even my cat brother and sister don't get to do that!

Okay, that's all for now. Except to say I hope all the great dogs and cats at Atlanta Pet Rescue get a great forever home, just like I did!

Lilly (formerly Libby)

This is two months in coming but I wanted to wait to write until we were settled in. She came to live with us at the beginning of July. Lilly is a miniature beagle, a very sweet girl, who has finally burst from her shell. Don't let her demeanor fool you - she can run, jump and tree a squirrel with Blackie (our rat terrier adopted in 2006). . Lilly and Blackie have finally gotten comfortable around each other. I think this has helped Lilly to be house trained too. Our daugher, Emma, is thrilled because Lilly likes to cuddle with her. Lilly will let Emma cover her with a blanket and treat her like a baby (see picture). She loves to go for walks and for rides in the car. Afterwards, she and Blackie collapse on the sofa (see picture) and nap for a while. Thanks so much to APR for letting us take this girl home with us.

Charlie

Just wanted to give you an update and let you know that Charlie is doing great! He has adjusted to home life quite well. He is generally very laid back while also extremely curious and playful. Anything that he can get in, on, or under, he will explore. He tends to get hyperactive late at night and early in the morning, so I am trying to figure out a good way to help him burn some energy without letting him claw my arms to shreds. No interest in the scratching post so far; apparently he is immune to catnip!

Charlie always comes to greet me when I get home. He is talkative and affectionate, and will come right up and put his paws up on my lap when he wants attention, or will put them around my neck in a little cat-hug when I pet him. I am so happy to be able to give him a good home, and that he chose me as his companion.

Thanks for all your help, and good luck to all the pets still waiting to find a home.

Dani
