We are absolutely in LOVE with our precious new dog Tristan (formally known as Mork). Tristan is an awesome little Yorkie-Maltese mix. He is honestly the most affectionate dog I've ever had. He was described as laid back and sweet by the staff, and they were so right. He is just the sweetest little guy, and greets every one in our condo community warmly. His favorite thing is to give little kisses. We should have named him Kiss-i-poo.

It took several visits to the rescue facility to find just the right match--well over a month in fact. He was so worth the wait. I was getting anxious that we might not find the perfect animal for our little family. I just knew that there was a place in my heart, that could only be filled by a very special dog. Somehow I knew that I had to keep searching, and that Atlanta Pet rescue was the right place for my search. I just felt comfortable with the screening process, and the incredible amount of pertinent information provided about the animals, due to the fostering program. This was most important to me, because I have a young child and needed to really know the animal's true disposition. The wonderful staff at Atlanta Pet Rescue was patient with my mulitple visits, and provided excellent guidance in chosing a animal that was gentle, child friendly, adaptable, trainable, and that would do well in a condo community. They were somewhat leary about my desire to adopt a small dog
because of my daughter's age...but when we met Tristan (Mork)...we loved him immediately. Carefully observing our interaction together at the facility, the staff could tell we were meant to be a family. Tristan and my daughter get along famously! They play well together and she is ever so gentle with him. Whenever he decides he needs a retreat, he simply goes to his room and she knows to give him alone-time. He was bone thin when we got him (vet said he needed to gain ~3 lbs), now his little appetite has returned and he maintains a fit and healthy weight. I absolutely took the rescue center's mandate of daily exercise for my dog seriously, and as a result, I have lost 6 lbs and feel great!! I purchased a pedometer, and note that I am usually well over the recommended 10,000 steps per day for a healthier lifestyle. Tristan loves all the fresh air and exercise. He puts his little nose in the air, and just goes for it! Its so much fun to watch his cute little stroll --he's adorable!
I absolutely feel that I will prolonged my life with extra joy he brings and the healthier lifestyle we're adapting. I have fallen so hard for this beautiful little animal. I just cant believe how blessed we are to have him. I just cant imagine how he ended up homeless; there must have been a very sad story, that made someone part with him. I am so grateful that we were led to each other. This is a match made in heaven. Thanks for the awesome work you do for the homeless animal of Atlanta!

Cupcake

Hello,

I've had Cupcake for around a year now! She was a pre-Christmas gift to me (as I was to her). She has been a blessing in my life. I look forward to coming home everyday and seeing her run around like crazy out of excitement. She does this Figure 8 run from the living room to the dining room. It is hilarious. I find myself doing the same! :)

Initially. when I adopted her she was hesitant about getting close. As a matter of fact the only time she did was when she was trying to show her possession over me, but I resolved that fairly quickly. :) The doggy daycare she attends absolutely LOVES her, she plays with other dogs well at the dog park, the groomer always puts cute bows in her hair, our meetup is very familiar with her and friends and family always ask about her. She is a joy and blessing to have!

I admit, I am one of those dogmoms who has to dress my baby up for the holidays. She has everything from star spangled banner dress to wear for Fourth of July to St. Pattys Day wear. She actually likes playing dress up! Just like her mommy!

It's funny, everyone thinks she is prissy, but she gets down and dirty with the boys. It's hard to keep her coat white all of the time, but her fun is my aim, so as long as she is enjoying herself, mommys happy!

Thank you again for all that you do APR. I don't know what I'd do if Cupcake were not in my life this day forward! Here's to one year, and many many more with her!

We are definitely a dog family!! Our children have had dogs since they were 5 years old. The youngest daughter is now 19 and gone on to college.

This year was a tough year for our family. As the kids grew up, we ended up with 4 great dogs.... We had a Golden, a Cairn Terrier, a mini schnauzer and a mix. The Golden and the Cairn were best buds. Unfortunately, our Golden, Maverick and our giant mix, Harrie both went to doggie heaven this year. They were both 13. It was so devastating to lose members of our family so close together. We were left with our Cairn, Tiger and our Schnauzer, Stella when we felt the need to add to our little four legged family once more. We knew that we wanted to give a forever home to a dog in need.

We knew we wanted to get one from Atlanta Pet Rescue. We walked in and fell in love with little Oscar who is now Oliver.....This picture tells it all. He loves belly rubs.

Thanks Atlanta Pet Rescue. Our family is complete again and but we'll never forget our Maverick and Harrie.

Spencer

With Spencer, I feel as though we hit the jackpot. We have had dogs before, but the last one was several years ago and, although we wanted a dog, we were a little reluctant to proceed. Fortunately, Spencer is precisely the type of dog we were looking for. He is a perfect fit for my wife and myself. He is affectionate, calm and well trained and he is probably the most intelligent dog I've ever had. He quickly became attached to us, and we to him, and he adjusted nicely to our daily routine. The best part is that he is well mannered, housebroken and we didn't have to endure the "chewing phase" that you get with puppies. He is joy to have.

Calum (formerly Mack)

Melody and I adopted Calum (formerly Mack) just last week, and within 24 hours he was already fitting into the household. This is remarkable because we have two peke/JRT females who are VERY alpha. Calum is so totally laid back they completely ignore him. Within the first afternoon (we adopted him at lunch time) he decided to "let" himself out of the bathroom (he climbed the gate) where he was initially placed for his safety. After crossing that "hurdle," he promptly explored the house, deciding that the kitchen was the BEST ROOM.

His first night was peaceful, and after that there was no stopping him. The next day he was on the couch and in the front window barking at the neighbors with everyone else, just like he'd always been there. He was JUST the right personality for the household, and he and our other small male, Winslow, are actually starting to play with each other.

In the first photo he's wearing his new harness, which he's still getting used to. In the second, you can see his shiny new ID tag as he sits in the papasan chair down in the den.

So far we're very happy with his progress, and look forward to many years with him in our family. Thank you!

Our new "Queen"!

Yesterday, my son said he couldn't believe it had only been a week since we adopted Queenie! She seemed like a part of our family from the minute she walked in our door. Here she is happily resting (I swear she's smiling!) after an energetic romp in her newly-fenced back yard. Thank you so much to APRA for bringing Queenie into our lives. After we lost our beloved 14 yr-old Wheaton to cancer earlier this summer, I didn't think I had it in me to open my heart to another dog - frankly, I didn't think I could love another dog as much as I had loved Lucy. But then a funny thing happened...one night, missing the pitter-patter of little dog feet and a sweet fluffy face, I decided to just "look" and see what dogs were available for adoption. That first night, I saw a picture of Queenie on the APRA website and I was a goner - I knew right then that she was meant to be a part of our family. I hadn't mentioned anything to my son, but when he had the exact same reaction I did when he saw
Queenie's photos, I knew we had to meet her. We were so excited when we saw she was finally ready for adoption, that we waited all weekend and went to APRA right after school that first day (I'm not sure much learning was done that day!). It was love at first sight. Thank you so much for the beautiful photos & descriptions that captured her personality and needs so perfectly. Queenie has made our family complete again!

Abu is now a member of our family. After being fostered by Jessie, Abu was destined to become a member of our household, though we live over 600 miles from Atlanta! Our previous rescue came with the name: Jasmine. We are the Aladdin family!

Jasmine and Abu have became best friends and our home is full of love! Thank you to APR for all that you do!!!

Suki and Alaska (formally known as Mai and Tai) continue to have the best mother-daughter relationship ever! Suki (with the help of a good Vet and medicine) continues to gain weight, and her checkups are improving. Alaska has gained weight also, and has the most beautiful fur coat we have ever seen. Both are wonderful family members and we couldn't be more happy with our adoption from Atlanta Shelter.

May 6, my daughter and I went to Atlanta Pet Rescue and looked at all of the dogs. Teddy stood out in our eyes and we played with him for about 45 minutes. We didn't know that since we have a dog, Teddy would have to meet her. So, we had to leave Friday, Teddyless and we were VERY disappointed. I think our combined sleep Friday night was about 5 hours! We were so excited to adopt Teddy and nervous of the thought that someone else might adopt him. We returned Saturday right when they opened at noon, brought our dog and they clicked. Phew!

We were SO happy we were able to adopt Teddy. He snuggled in my daughter's arms all the way home and played for hours in our yard with the kids and our dog. Now, they run around, play and snuggle. He loves being with us and going on hikes. He is so smart, active and chill. We couldn't have asked for a better dog!!!!!! Enjoy our pics!

Pez: AKA Scout

Pez has a new name - Scout. Scout is a joy to live with. I had to put my "boy" to sleep last month, and who knew that such a loss could bring such a gain. When my daughter and I brought her home she was shy and wanted to sleep all the time - she even refused to eat for two days.

Needless to say, Scout has made herself at home. She has been in places in the house my other dog didn't know existed, and unearthed chewies and bones left behind by him the I was totally unaware of. She loves to take walks and hang out on the patio and on me when we nap on the sofa together. Her most favorite thing to do is play with Wrigley, a 79lb Rhodesian Ridgeback, at his house or at the dog park behind our house.

Scout is a wonderful addition to our family and distraction from the loss of Chase. (He was with us for 14 years.) She is so easy to love and keeps us laughing and smiling all the time. Thank you to all at APRA for taking care of Pez/Scout until I could find her. I am the luckiest mommy in the world - I have two of the best girls ever.

Earl (Now "Bux")

It's been exactly a week since I adopted Earl, who is now "Bux." Bux is doing so well and has made so much progess in a week. He's gotten comfortable with the leash and he's like a little prancer when we go on our walks in the park. Bux loves the small dog park and plays well with the other kiddies. He's made lots of new friends!
He brings me so much joy, and I love that I can see the happy little guy first thing every morning. Bux loves to jump up and down and wag his tail when he's happy (and he's always happy!). Bux and I love to cuddle on the couch together, and we also love playtime with all his new toys! He's one of the greatest things to ever happen to me and I'm so excited to share with him many years of joy! Thank you, Naomi

Hi! It's me, Velvet. I wanted to let you know that I'm doing great. Mom says I'm the best and she even takes me to school! I go to Pint Size Class and Mom just keeps giving me treats while she acts silly and claps when I do somethng she likes. But I just humor her and eat the treat. I have lots of new friends too. I like Dezi and Pooh the best. When we come home I get to teach my sister Maesey how to do things so she can get treats too. She's too big to go to Pint Size Class.

Sometimes we visit family in Florida. That's my most favorite thing to do. My Aunt thinks I'm a cutie and she sneaks me nibbles of whatever she's cooking. I stay right in front of the stove so she doesn't have to look for me.

I miss my Foster Mom and I hope I can see her again. Tell everyone I said "Paws Up!"

Dear Atlanta Pet Rescue and Randy Veal,

I always wanted a large dog, and then I went to Atlanta Pet Rescue's web and saw Holly. I was skeptical at first when I read from her profile that she had limited vision, but eventually I decided to take a chance and go see her. All that I had to say afterwards was that Holly had been a dream come true. She was a little nervous when I first brought her home. My first dog was also not use to a second dog in the home. There was a lot for all three of us to get used to.
Now, it's been over six months since I adopted Holly in October and she has been a blessing. Holly's impaired vision doesn't slow her down the least bit, even beating me up the stairs many times. She and Gucci, my first dog, get along wonderfully now and enjoy one another's company in our backyard and inside the house while I'm away from home.

Holly loves to go jogging with me and run off leash at the grass field in our community. The joy on her face as she looks over at me with her tongue hanging to the side and one ear flopped over after rolling around in the grass always brings a smile to my face. At home, Holly wants nothing more than to be with me, whether it's knowing that I'm in the same room with her or leaning right next to me with her head in my lap.

I love Holly so much! What she lacks in sight, she makes up in love. I could not have found a better dog. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to bring her home. I hope that all the pets at Atlanta Pet Rescue will find a forever home and be as happy as Holly is.

Bento (aka Denver), the Happiest Tri-Pawd on the Planet!

I have been a frequent visitor to the Atlanta Pet Rescue website for years- seeing all the precious faces and sponsoring special pets have always lifted my spirits. However, the moment I saw Bento on the site, I was in love. Like everyone, I was heartbroken when news came that Bento's broken leg could not be fixed and that his back leg would have to be amputated. The first day he was available for adoption, I made my way to APR to meet the little guy. There he was, in the corner of the playpen, lying down and facing the wall with his 'cone of shame.' The volunteers put us in the meeting space together and Bento slowly hopped over to my lap and timidly accepted a belly rub. Before long, Bento was in the passenger seat on his way to his forever home.

Our first week together, Bento slept all day and was disinterested in toys or even walks. Everything seemed new to him, and ordinary things like printers and paper bags, or even people standing at bus stops, were a source of fear for him. However, we were patient with him and gave him all the patience and love he needed. Slowly, Bento began to warm up. He learned that squeaky toys are incredibly fun, that bones are great to chew, and that greeting us at the door by jumping up and down on his back leg like a pogo stick never fails to make us laugh! On walks, he also realized how easy it is to mark without having to lift a leg! In the two short months we have been together, Bento has blossomed into a strong, bouncy, happy little boy who charms everyone he meets. In our daily walks in Piedmont Park, he impresses passer-bys with how fast and easily he can trot along on three legs. He has even learned to sit, lay down, and roll for treats! He is willing to shake hands too, but unf
ortunately, he has a little trouble balancing on two paws :)

In short, Bento is the love of our lives. Our sincere thanks to all of you who supported Bento during his surgery and recovery. Bento is an inspiration that life goes on, and goes on joyfully, after difficult times!

Barney and Trixie (Formerly Starbuck and Jane)

Our relationship with APRA began a year ago today when we walked through the doors of the shelter, hoping to find a furry friend to fill the void in our house. You see, we lost all three of our cherished dogs within eight weeks of one another and the silence in the house had become unbearable. I had been checking out the website daily for several weeks and finally on April 10, 2010, we loaded up the kids and drove to the shelter. We had our eye on this gorgeous Weimaraner named Starbuck. I knew the minute I saw him that he was the one I wanted to join our family. He had these soulful eyes and the sweetest temperment. He even tolerated the up close and personal attention of two young children with gentleness and patience. Starbuck's foster, Randy, shared the inside scoop on Starbuck's favorite toys, feeding habits and severe dislike of his crate. After discussing this new arrangement with Starbuck, he agreed to give us a chance. On the ride home, we battered around sever
al names, but the moment we arrived home and allowed our new pet to race around his new backyard, the name Barney was, hands down, the winner. I will never forget that first image of Barney running around in his new home, gigantic ears flopping in the wind. Barney has been an absolute joy since that first day he joined our family. His size does not deter him from wedging himselft into the smallest space if it means a chance to snuggle in someone's lap. His fierce passion for his Nylabones is evident throughout the house as you are lucky to take a step without finding one underfoot!
As much joy as Barney brings to our family, we knew that we needed to find him a sibling. We spent several months on the APRA website looking for the perfect addition. One day I saw a photograph taken by the amazing Leesia Teh and I knew that we had to meet this sweet puppy named Jane. Jane was a bit frightened by the amount of attention coming her way, and she was content to nestle in my arms while the children and Barney gave her the once over. After initial meetings were all positive, we brought her home on January 8, 2011, hoping she would acclimate into our family routine, and on the ride home, she became Trixie. Trixie has grown so much since joining our family. She was very timid initially, but is far less skiddish now and enjoys playing with everyone in the family. While she is no snuggle bunny, Trixie does like to stay close and is never a few feet away from her brother, Barney.
It's now been three months with both of our dogs and we couldn't be happier with the results. Barney and Trixie are inseperable and enjoy playing and napping together. Despite the size difference (Barney is 55 pounds larger than Trixie), Trixie is able to keep up with Barney and even outsmarts him from time to time. Barney is extremely gentle with Trixie and it is not uncommon to see the two rolling around on the floor. We joke that Trixie spends much of her time inside Barney's mouth as she often has a damp head after their wrestling matches.
We sincerely thank everyone who works so tirelessly to give these dogs a second chance at life. For all of the foster families that open their homes and hearts to care for these animals and then willingly let them go to forever families, thank you. For the many volunteers that show up at the shelter to do all of thankless jobs that keep these pets healthy and safe, thank you. For the entire staff at APRA that have devoted their lives to caring for neglected animals, thank you. Your passion for rescue helps families become complete. I can't thank APRA enough for making it possible for Barney and Trixie to find us. They are finally forever home.

Riggs (formerly Gregory)

We adopted "Gregory" back in December. At the time, he had just been treated for heartworms, neutered and treated for worms. Poor little guy had no idea what to think of all this. When we put a leash on him to take him home, he had no idea what to do and just looked at us. We had to coax him out the door and into the car with treats. He was a statue the whole way home, and we ended up having to carry him in the house. The minute we put him down, he took off and ran and jumped and played, like he knew he was home!! His new name is "Riggs!" He took some warming up to family life, but he is loving it now! He snuggles with us and LOVES to play. He will run and run and run until he about falls over. He enjoys our fenced in backyard, the trail near our house, and he is even getting used to the other dogs in the dog park, now that he realizes that other dogs can be nice and fun. He is a precious friend, a loyal companion, a good watch dog, and our favorite four-legged family me
mber. Life has been so nice with him, and we can't imagine not having him.

Alexander The Great Dane

Dear Atlanta Pet Rescue Team,

We just want to say thanks for helping us to adopt such a gentle giant. Alex (or as we affectionately call him, "Grande") is so much fun and he brings so many smiles to our house. It is amazing how he has integrated so well into our home and doesn't even mind being "bossed around" by his smaller sibling, Maco (the Pug).

Most importantly, we want you to know that Alex no longer cowers or puts his tail between his legs...he has become very comfortable in our home.

I just wanted to thank everyone at Atlanta Pet Rescue for helping in adopting Tazzy.

We brought him home yesterday, and we could not have asked for a better addition to our family. He is a total joy, and seems perfect-I can't imagine how someone gave him up.

Since he had not been fostered, I just wanted to let you know he seemed right at home from the moment we got him in the car-curled up right next to my mom, got him home and he scoped out the backyard, then came in and ate a little something, and found the stash of squeeky toys before we both laid down for a nap:)

He's adorable, and so sweet....he's a perfect fit and we couldn't be happier to have him.

I had been on your site for several weeks, and was just able to get out to to you yesterday because of my irregular scheduling at work. Although the original dog we were interested in was not yet available, we decided to come out anyway which I encourage everyone to do!!! There were several dogs we were then interested in, but until you meet them one-on-one, you really can't decide which one is best for you....and the dog.

I want to commend you on your site-I like how it is constantly updated, and the photography of the animals are OUTSTANDING...you can tell everyone at your facility really cares about the animals and getting them with the right families.

Sissy (formerly Misty)

Here are some pictures of Sissy (formerly Misty). It took some patience, but she has really come a long way. Sissy now goes out through the doggie door like a rocket when she thinks she hears something. She loves to chase the birds when they gather at the bird feeder. She sits in my lap and loves to watch Animal Cops on TV, she is just glued to the TV. She sleeps in our bed and in the morning, she gets up and goes outside to do her business before we can ask. She has gained some weight and looks so much better. She gets kisses from our Westie, but I am not sure if she really appreciates that LOL. All in all, Sissy has a wonderful life.

Ichabod

We recently adopted Ichabod, (formerly Alvin), one of the adorable little chihuahua/terrier puppies found in a dumpster. We were looking for a playmate for our rescue chihuahua, who lost his best buddy this past September. Ichabod instantly became an integral part of our family from the second we brought him home; in fact we can't imagine life without him. We call him our "little blonde ninja" because he's managed to jump over our doggie baby gates, push open doors, and grab our socks or shoes before we even know he's stolen them. He's so full of love and life and energy, and has filled our life with so much joy it's overwhelming! Our chihuahua loves him, too, although I think he's a little jealous that Ichabod appears to be smarter than he is. Thank you, Atlanta Pet Rescue, for saving little souls like our precious Ichabod. We love him so much!

Dear APR - I can't believe it has been a year already! And what a wonderful year we have had!!! We play and laugh and watch TV;I especially like when "Dogs" is on! My mama and I love each other very much and we talk all of the time. I don't know if you remember, but I love to talk! Hi there, we adopted the terrier mix Merlin there last week and just wanted to give you an update on how he's doing. He is fitting in to our home perfectly- he and our other dog Hutch have quickly become best friends- they run and roll around together playing and chasing each other around the backyard all the time. Hutch had become a little depressed recently when our other dog passed away at 16 years old so it's so nice to see Hutch happy again- we can tell he really loves his new brother. Merlin (we did change his name to Monty though) is even getting along well enough with our cats- our little deaf one in particular likes him a lot and tried to get him to chase him around the house- it's really very cute. I adopted Ollie (once known as Harley) a few months ago. I already had 2 Chihuahua's and when I saw him on line I just had to meet him. He has become the 5lb. "Boss" around the house and is not afraid of anything. He walks like he's Big Stuff. He does bite the ankles of people that come to visit, I think he just wants to show them who rules the roost but we are working on this :) His favorite thing is sunning on the deck on his big fluffy pillow Thank you so much for allowing me to make him apart of my pack.

Hi APR! We adopted Saucy just before Christmas last year, and she has been a wonderful addition to our home! Saucy runs with us to and from Piedmont Park several times a week, and she ran her first race (the JLA ShamRock N Roll race) with us this morning. Saucy loves to meet other dogs (she feels most comfortable around bigger dogs), but loves being an only puppy at home. She's excited about having a kitty sister, but we're still negotiating a permanent puppy/kitty peace accord. Saucy loves to go on long runs with us, but also loves to curl up and sleep quietly at my feet while I'm working at the computer. We're looking forward to moving to a new house with a fenced yard for Saucy to play in soon!

Irene seems to like her new home! My son decided to rename her Slinky (after the dog in the movie Toy Story). She is a very smart dog! She's learning to sit and stay. We work on her tricks and obedience during a couple of training sessions each day. Most days we take a walk around the neighborhood. She has a lot of energy. My kids love to play with her in the backyard!

I took her to the vet today where she received a clean bill of health - yay! I wanted to say a special thank you to all of the people at Atlanta Pet Rescue and to the sponsors that paid her vet bills before we adopted her. She had a rough start in life, and I realize how lucky my family and I are to have her with us! I am very thankful to those kind souls who took her under their wings when she was so sick. To look at her today, you would never know that she was sick a day in her life. Please know that you have made a huge impact in Slinky's life and in ours.

As I was watching my son and daughter laugh and play with her yesterday, I was reminded of the pet that I had and loved as a child. I look forward to my kids forming a bond with Slinky that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

Miss VV

Thank you so much for this wonderful little girl. She is Miss VV, aka Velvet. She loves to go on our walks, and walks 3 miles everyday. Each walk is 1 mile and I wasn't sure she could do it with those short little legs, but she loves it! She loves to walk with her sister, Maesey, and she loves to go to the lake. Velvet tries to play with the geese and can't understand why they run and fly away.

Velvet enjoys our neighborhood and all the people and dogs here. She has made lots of new friends, and everything is fine as long as they understand this is her street, her house, her Sister and her Mom. There's alot of courage in that little body!

VV takes joy in everything we do and it so special to see. Like all rescues, she appreciates her life and makes the most of each day. She has opened my heart after losing Flynn, and she has taught me how to love again. Thanks to all of you, and especially Gigi, for bringing us together.

I adopted Brady (formerly Mimi) last November after Thanksgiving. For years I've wanted a furry companion but having lived in apartments I never had the space. After closing on my first home and FINALLY unpacking all of my boxes, the time and space were right for a pet. Brady has been an awesome companion. She's spunky and energetic just like her owner. We've had so much fun going on hikes and participating in training classes. Although her namesake didn't go to the Super Bowl this year, they're both MVPs in my book!

I adopted Dallas right after Thanksgiving last year. I already owned a 2 year old male boxer named Kona and wanted a playmate for him. The moment I met 7 month old Dallas, I had to have him. He was such a friendly happy puppy even while at the Rescue. Kona and Dallas were ready to play the moment they met at APR.

I made it clear to the volunteers that my dog was my child and I'm neurotic about him and adopting Dallas, I wouldn't be any different. I think our volunteer could sense Dallas was going to be in good hands when I told her I take Kona for daily runs to get his energy out and my weekends usually consist of taking him on trips hiking and to play with other dogs.

Dallas came home with us that day and I can not begin to explain what a blessing he is. Between almost daily walks at the park, hiking on the weekends and non-stop playtime with Kona, Dallas is greatly enjoying being with us. I couldn't have adopted a better dog. He gets along with Kona perfectly and loves everybody he meets.

His mange has healed nicely and he is at a healthy weight. It breaks my heart that anyone could just give up a sweet companion like Dallas. However, he obviously was meant to be with us! I love my 2 boxer boys!

In the pics, Kona (my original boxer) is the bigger darker boxer and Dallas is the smaller one with more white on the right. As you can see, they get along great and LOVE to snuggle together. THANKS APR for bringing such an amazing joy into our lives!

We have been blessed with SaniBelle for a month now. She came to us as a shy little girl with no confidence. Today she is blossoming into a fearless soul with her brother Pancake and for the past two weeks, the game of grrrrrr....grrrrrr has gone on almost nonstop, except for sleep and chow. She still has trouble accepting strangers, however she is opening up to us, more daily. Her place in our bed is sacred to her and not even pancake dare invade it.. She now has her own page on face book (Sanibelle Hutchinson ) along with her brothers. As Merlot continues his journey thru his senior years, he, at least daily, attempts to join their game, only to discover that once he has gotten up, they have moved on elsewhere.... He knows that we are in good paws for the future.....

Otto-bot: The Snuggle Machine

Exactly one year ago today, I adopted Otto (then Hank). At the time, I knew I was finally ready for my very own dog, but I had a laundry list of requirements, with a hypoallergenic breed topping the list. After several weeks, I began to think I was searching for the Holy Grail of the dog world, the perfect dog. My parents kept urging me to talk to breeders, but I had seen many purebred dogs go through APR and knew eventually one would come along that would need the home I could provide. At last, I met Otto. When we took him outside, he just kept smiling and smiling and smiling at me with his crooked teeth and those silly, floppy bangs over his eyes. I couldn't leave without him.

Though he was found as a matted stray and never claimed from animal control, it's obvious that Otto was once part of a household. I will never understand how anyone could have let or put such a wonderful dog on the street. He was housetrained from day one (wahoo!). After some extra doggy-proofing to curb his mischievous streak, he has free run of the apartment while I'm away. He has to know where I am at all times when I'm home, but doesn't so much as make a peep when I leave. He gets along with most dogs we meet, even my sister's shih-tzu Oscar (the Grouch), but especially loves people. I brought him to a basic obedience class, where he quickly learned sit, down, come, leave it, shake, and rollover. Since then, I've taught him crawl and a stupid pet trick my roommate and I made up called "Otto-bot, Transform!" where he stands up and walks on two legs (supposedly like a Transformer autobot). He loves his food, long walks, snuggling, and any toy that squeaks. He's very cle
an and keeps all of his toys in several "forts" or "man caves" throughout my place. Some days he comes to my office with me, where he's been adopted by my boss and coworkers as our research group's unofficial mascot. My family also adores him. When I am busy with studies and research, he is content to lie at my feet or in my lap while I work. He always finds new ways to entertain me and always makes the vet and vet techs laugh. The words most often used to describe him are "well-behaved," "awesome," and "cute" – I've even had people stop their cars to tell me how cute he is or yell it as they drive by! Maybe he's not quite perfect, but I think he's perfect for me!

Thanks so much for rescuing Otto. I can't imagine my life without him now. He's much loved by me, my family, and many other people. I am looking forward to many more years with him, and wish APR many more years filled with many more happy tails!

I wanted to give you guys an update on the beautiful little kitty I adopted this week! She was a longer haired Siamese looking cat named Prada. I have renamed her Sophie :) She lives with us in a home with my other orange tabby named Obie and Pitbull named Maddie. Maddie has embraced her with open arms, and even gives her kisses much to Sophie's dismay! My cat Obie is still feeling her out, but there isn't anymore growling :) Sophie just kind of stares at him like why are you looking at me like that! She is a great addition to our home and is very sweet and loves to be pet and purr! Her favorite place is in the window sill and on the toilet seat to watch me brush my teeth and do my makeup! Update on Vixen

I just wanted to update you on Olive the Shih-poo Pup, formerly known as "Vixen," whom we adopted from APRA in November 2010. I'm happy to report that Olive is now 8 months old and doing really well. She is playful, inquisitive, and super-snuggly, with perhaps the world's cutest underbite. She bonded with me and my husband very quickly, to the point that she started showing signs of separation anxiety when we were at work. So now she attends doggie daycare 4 days/week, hangs out with her teleworking dad on Wednesdays, and enjoys both her parents' undivided attention on the weekends! Meanwhile we went back to square one in dealing with the separation issues, and she is already showing great progress with being left alone for short lengths of time (e.g., while we're out to dinner). So maybe she won't have to attend doggie daycare forever, but for now it has been such a blessing—and the extra playtime helps her expend some of that puppy energy, too! Anyway, Olive sleeps through
the night in her crate, has learned to use a doggie doorbell when she needs to go out, and is doing great with basic obedience training. She has been such a gift. My husband and I lost our elderly cockapoo last fall, and we were just despondent without a dog in the house. We're so glad that we found tiny little Olive, who snuggled her way right into our hearts. Thanks, APRA, for rescuing Vixen/Olive (and her new parents)!

Bullwinkle

We adopted "Bullwinkle" 5 years ago this week and it was the best decision we ever made bringing him into our home. He was 6 weeks old when we adopted him and has been such a wonderful best friend to his now 10 year-old human sister, Maddy. We kept the name Bullwinkle but normally call him "Winkie" or "Binxter". Only "Bullwinkle" is used to call him if he lets his little hound nose get the best of him and he tries to wander off. He is such a smart dog and great cuddle buddy! I don't know how I lived so many years without him in my life! I also wanted to say "thank you" to all of you for giving us such a great gift and for all you do there at APR.

I adopted a beagle/chihuahua mix named Doc from your organization several years ago and wanted to send along a message saying that he is doing wonderfully! He has a brother named Max (small lab mix) and we all have been living in Boston for about a year now (we moved from atlanta due to a transfer at my job). We love to take trips to all the dog parks around the city and we love to travel throughout the region to hike and to visit all the nearby beaches!

I renamed "Doc" Cooper after I got him and he has been such a blessing in my life. He is a charmer, and people always fall in love with him, understandably so. Thanks so much for what you do and for all the joy you bring to dogs and their owners!

Lillie (Dixie)

Lillie and I have been almost inseparable since Tuesday. I've begun a project blog about us in my blog, Sending Pages Out to Dry.
She's a lively girl with good manners. Someone obviously trained her well to walk on a leash, sit quietly without begging during dinner (though those brown eyes of hers are very speaking) and sit on command.

She's quite sweet and gets along well with the other dogs at Piedmont Park's dog park. We checked out the little dog pen today and she had a blast with the poodles, cairns and a terrific little retriever who acted as coach and had them all (except the Pomeranian) running in fast circles. We'll be going to Piedmont a lot.

We start training at Pet Smart next week.

She's not crazy about the crate I bought her; I'm afraid it's too big or, because she shivers fearfully when placed inside, that it brings back bad memories...but I could be projecting. She's okay in the small crate, which I keep in the car.

My male friends didn't like my calling him "Rosie" for short and Roosevelt was just too long a name. He comes when I call him "Whitney," so it's a mutual decision. I am madly in love with this little dog, but I have no digital camera. Whitney is snuggly, playful, obedient, well-behaved, good with other dogs once he gets comfortable. He plays regularly now and cuddles up with an 85 pound Rottweiler-German Shepherd named Nicky. Nicky loves other dogs and will let little dogs climb on him, take toys from him, and they can even try to hump him. He's a gentle soul. When Nicky and Whitney play, they chase each other around my yard. So I want Judy to know (she fostered my sweet little boy) that he's becoming a very confident guy even around a very, very large dog. As a friend pointed out to me, "You are five feet tall. Imagine having someone who is 20 feet tall chasing you." Whitney is enjoying chasing and being chased by a dog that is nearly four times his size.
He had been coughing and sneezing a bit so we visited my vet. He's taking a cough suppressant and he seems perfectly well now. His weight was 23 pounds, so he is 2 pounds heavier than when first rescued. His weight is perfect and I plan to keep him at that weight.
Whitney likes to sleep with me. He was intensely affectionate from the moment I brought him home and that has not lessened. He no longer tries to leave by the front door when I'm going out. He seems happy here. Part of his happiness may be that I'm a homebody who can give him lots of affection and attention. He understood the rules here immediately, he's not done one thing he shouldn't, and he's completely trustworthy about using the dog door.

Just wanted to let you know things are going great with the two dogs. They became best buddies almost instantly. We have a friend coming in mid-day and spending about 30-45 min with them. They love their new fenced-in run, and seem to be starting to get the hang of using that area to go to the bathroom.

I celebrated my four year adoption anniversary in January and I thought I would check in and say hi. I'm sending you some pictures of me and my baby brother watching the Superbowl. He likes to cuddle with me sometimes. I tolerate it, mostly because he feeds me a lot and that makes us very good friends. He drops food over his high chair when mommy is not looking. In fact, Dr. Ewing told mommy to feed me less food (bummer!) since my brother is supplementing my diet. Needless to say, the name given to me when I arrived at APR, Twiggy, has not really been appropriate ever since I left.

One year ago today my husband I and brought home a pair of furry little brothers. They've kept our feet warm - and our chairs warm, and our pillows warm - every day since.

We had gone to APR's website seeking one kitten, and fell in love with two. Toki is our quiet, shy one, and WarPig lives up to the name that we gave to him - waking us when it's time for breakfast by biting our toes, but they have added a lot of warmth and adventure into our home and lives. We couldn't be happier that we came home with both of them.

Pebbles joined our little family on New Years Day. She is a treasure! Her doctor says that she has reached her ideal weight of 6.5 pounds. Her hair is filling in and she looks fantastic!

Molly has joined the household and has been a bright spot every day. Rumors that she is not a lap dog turned out to be untrue. She snoozed away draped over my lap for a couple of hours while I read a book.

She has a couple of fox toys with double squeaks that she plays with when frisky.

Molly has also determined that the venetian blinds should be raised in the front windows. After I went to work she completely destroyed one blind so she could see the frontyard. Apparently she was not interested in the back yard. Fortunately, the exact same brand of venetian blind were on clearance sale at Home Depot. I bought two at $1.40 apiece.

I am very happy with Molly. We have gone for our first walk together, played frequently and overall she is a great dog. Getting her to poop outside may take a few days.

Just wanted to give you an update on T.J. He is doing great! He is absolutely the sweetest little cat. Although he is definitely playful and curious too! He climbed into the wash machine yesterday lol. And has dumped the toy box over probably 5 times a day. But he is the most loving little thing and so cute. Things are going really well with him and Dewars too. They aren't buddies yet but I think they will be soon. He is so laidback I don't think anything bothers him.

The story of George (formally Dude):

After a short search for a new best friend, George popped up on the APR website. See all my "best friends" have come from shelters. There are way too many dogs that need homes not to look at shelters. George was quite the popular dog with many people submitting applications to adopt him. I was very lucky, George came home with me. When George walked into the house he sniffed around a bit, found the food and water bowls, and hit pay dirt when he came across the TOY chest. This was like hitting the doggy lottery to him. He picked a few toys, hopped up on the couch, found his blanked and settled in like he was always meant to be there. George and I bonded in no time flat, it was like had always been with me.

Now here is where karma comes into play. A few years ago when I first moved to Atlanta, I was alone in a new city and wanted a dog to share my new condo. I looked online for a few months trying to find a Boston Terrier. I could not bring myself to go to a breeder. I knew if I was patent a Boston Terrier would find me. A friend called me one day to tell me there was a young BT at the shelter near his house in Charleston, South Carolina. I was like cool, road trip. I drove over to Charleston and fell in love with Owen the wonder dog. Owen was a stud dog at a puppy mill and took some work to get him adjusted to living in a house and not a cage. After 4 great years, Owen was diagnosed with heart problems in April of 2009. After many months of hard fighting, Owen lost his battle December 16, 2009. In November of 2010 I was ready to share my home again with a new best friend. I again went on line and found George. After adopting George, I took him to my vet so they cou
ld meet. This is when they ask me what George's birthday is. I looked at all the information that the good folks at APR gave me and what do I find out; George was born December 16, 2009; the day Owen died. I felt so bad for the people that had to surrender George, but I think he was meant to live with me.

George is happy and healthy. He loves the doggy parks in Decatur!! If you ever see a happy go lucky French bulldog in Decatur, don't be surprised when he hoppes up and says HELLO! You see, George has never met a stranger, dog or human. Thank you so much APR for all the good work you guys do. There is no way to measure the amount of happiness you have brought to families all over Atlanta. Keep up the good work you do !!!!!

It was meant to be. I was waiting to adopt a male dog whose owner loved him but could not keep him. My husband wanted a Sheltie. Then one day, there was Harry, a Sheltie-mix whose owner had gotten too ill to care for him. We went to visit him at Atlanta Pet Rescue and waited in a small enclosed area with Holly, my regal Greyhound. She didn't realize that there would be no adoption without her approval. And happily, she liked him. Of course, Harry's first choice was Bill. He took one look, leaped onto his lap, and started kissing him. We took Harry home, and he joined our little pack as though he had always lived with us. He was 1) hous trained, 2) able to sit on command, 3) an excellent player of FETCH, 4) and able to tell us when he needed to go out. He's a smart little dog. He and Holly play outside, and I'm thrilled that she has company for the hours when I'm out of the house. Thank you, Pet Rescue. Judy and Bill, East Atlanta Village

Brutus makes three!

Brutus the boxer has only been in our home for about three weeks but we already can't imagine life without him! Brutus was an instant fit with our other two dogs, Olive and dogo, and our cat, Tugga. You can often find the three dogs snuggling in one of the dog beds together.

We were looking for a third dog to complete our canine family. By adopting an adult dog, we were expecting to have our work cut out for us. Who knew what experiences he had had with his previous owners? What we found was the exact opposite! Brutus is one of best behaved, happy and loving dogs we have ever met. He is affectionate, listens and always seems to have a good time whether he's playing at the dog park with his new friends or cuddling with us on the couch. Not only is he a sweet, well-behaved and playful dog but he has started to alert us when people approach the house which makes us feel much safer.

How did we get lucky enough to find a dog like Brutus? I'm not sure but in just a few weeks he has enriched our lifes. We look forward to many happy years of hiking, walks, dog parks and naps on the couch. Thank you APR for all the great work you do! And, of course, thank you James for telling us about Brutus!

Just wanted to give everyone at APR an update on how Caper is doing (formerly Becks). We have had him as a part of our family for almost two months now and he's doing great! He's the perfect companion for us. Karen at APR really took her time with us and helped us find the perfect match! We tell everyone how great APR is!

We took Caper with us over the holidays to stay with family and he did great with the new environment, which included kids and dogs. As my aunt said - he was a 'gentleman'. We're also doing an obedience class and he's the star. Already so well-behaved!

I'm attaching a few photos of Caper with Thomas and curled under the Christmas tree. We already can't image life without him. He's brought us so much joy!

Harper (formerly Chonga)

We adopted Chonga on Friday November 26, 2010. He now goes by Harper. We tried many different names, but he seemed to like this one the best. He has been a great addition to our family. We love him so much. Harper eats really fast compared to our other dog, Bailey, so we had to teach him to eat from his bowl. He has done really well. Well, now he will wait until Bailey is done to see if he has anything left. He is a very sweet, smart, and a fast learner. He learned no, outside, and go to bed really fast. I guess because we say it a lot. He was barking at people and other dogs a lot, but not so much now as we walk him in our neighborhood everyday. Harper gets upset when we leave to go to work, but we think he calms down a little later. I think it helps to have another dog around. I now only work three days a week so I will be home a lot more. He still likes to nip at your feet when walking, but he only does that right when we wake up and when he comes home. I k
now he will probably grow out of that as he gets older. I call him my little Tazmanian Devil just because he can get so wild and hyper sometimes. Bailey and Harper get along great except for when it comes to toys. Even if we get them the same toy for each they still get jealous over what the other one has. We are working with them on that. We love him so much! It's hard to imagine that he was at a kill shelter before you guys rescued him. Thank you so much!! I have attached his photo with Santa. To lose 2 dogs in the same year was devastating. It took us 1 year to feel like we could bring new pets into our home. We went to APR to actually adopt 2 of the Biewer Yorkies (Cory and Coral) but Jim saw Chandler (Billie) and I saw Fiona (Christa) and that was it! :-) We are so happy to have found then and even happiuer that we could give them a good home. I have attached 2 photos of them from Christmas. Fiona loved her Christmas dress and pranced around all day. Chandler gets ino everything and prissy Fiona had ripped apart a toy (with her 4 teeth!!) and Chandler wore the remnants like Santa's beard. I think you will agree that they are happy furballs!.

We just wanted to share our success story with you... We adopted Madigan (formerly Maddie) in July/2010. We changed her name to Madigan, which is Gaelic for "little dog". (the man of the house is from Ireland, so we thought it was a perfect name for her!) When Madigan first got to our home she was shy and reserved, but it wasn't long before she came out of her shell. She is now a beloved member of our family, following us from room to room. Our experience with APR couldn't have been any more pleasant, and we recommend you to anyone that is looking for a loving animal. Poncho - Wheaten Terrier Mix

I had wanted a dog of my very own for many years. I kept waiting to "be settled" in my own life – which seemed to take forever! At 27 I was sure I was ready. After weeks of looking for a dog, I found Poncho on the APR website. I had fallen for him immediately and rushed down to APR on my first free day to adopt him.

He was timid and awkward to say the least. He would not look at me and peed in submission when we leashed him. Luckily I had my mind set that I was going home with this dog and no other.

The first 6 months were very tough. Poncho did not trust men, he was un-socialized and had fear aggression issues. It was extremely trying time for us both. We signed up for training almost immediately (K9Express.com with Carlos) and worked everyday to over come Poncho's past.

He is a new dog - You would not recognize him. I can't imagine life without Poncho now. He wakes up every morning with the happiest spirit. He loves his toys, his dog friends, our trips to breakfast and to our local pub. Thanks for seeing the potential in Poncho. He's an amazing dog and a precious member of my family.

This week I celebrate my one year anniversary with Sasha (formerly "Becca") whom I adopted from Atlanta Pet Rescue on January 5, 2010. Well, what a year it has been for me and my sweet little girl (did I say sweet little girl – maybe I should have said my sweet little acrobatic devil).

Sasha is a mix that we are still trying to figure out – we think maybe Shih Tzu and Maltese or Cairn Terrier. She weighs about 13 pounds and only stands about 10 inches off the ground – so who would have thought she would be able to jump up on the dining room table and eat a dozen and a half cookies I had left on the table to take to a party later that day (I actually watched her jump from a standing position on the floor onto the dining room table one day). My friends and I all agree that she must have been trained as a circus dog in a previous life. And smart – Oh boy is she smart. She loves garbage cans and can get into almost anything – So I had to go out and get the kind of garbage cans that have the lid that open with the foot pedal. One night I was eating strawberries and she wanted some in the worst way. Well I don't give her human food so she knew she wouldn't' get any strawberries from me, So - she helped herself. When I finished eating the strawberries, I thr
ew the stems in the trash – the next day was trash day so the can was pretty full – A few minutes later I heard this banging noise in the kitchen – I went into the kitchen and there was my cute little Sasha bear hugging the trash with one foot on the floor and the other on the pedal of the trash can – she would jump on the pedal to open the lid –quickly reach up and grab a strawberry – throw it on the floor and hit the pedal again – by the time I got to the kitchen, she had 4 strawberry tops on the floor. Now that is a smart dog. (What I wouldn't give to have gotten that on video!)

She loves to stand on her back legs and dance – and she has the cutest face you have ever seen. She looks so innocent to get into so much mischief! A few weeks ago she helped herself to what was left of an apple pie that I had sitting on the kitchen counter (still haven't figured out how she got it from the back of the counter to the kitchen floor but she did). Anyway – I am trying to train her that the kitchen counters and dining room table are not her playground. We are making some progress but she does relapse every now and then. The problem is she is so cute when she does something bad that I have a hard time trying to correct her (usually because I am laughing to hard) you should see the expression on her face – she just looks at you with this innocent "I didn't do anything wrong" look and you just have to laugh.

She has definitely been a delight to be around and is extremely entertaining. She loves to curl up next to you and be petted. She is so soft and cuddly – but she does like to give French kisses – we are working on that issue too. She gets so excited when I come home at night – she is always there to greet me and no matter how stressful my day has been – her sweet little face and excited manner just cheer me right up. I am so glad to have my sweet little devil in disguise girl. She really is a delightful, entertaining, cuddly and cheerful companion and I hope we have many good years together.

It's been one year since my husband and I adopted Trixie and Baylee (formerly Bayo) and we couldn't have asked for better kittens. They are the sweetest kittens and they get along with each other so well (as you can see by the picture). Trixie, on the left, is a little more on the shy side. Baylee is the social butterfly of the two, even running to the front door when someone rings the doorbell. Together they are a perfect match, and are constantly entertaining themselving, as well as my husband and me. They are just a joy to have in our home and we are so happy we found them!!

Petunia was adopted in 2008. She continues to be a delight. Housebroken from the moment we brought her home she is the perfectly behaved dog. It took her about a year to "get her voice" and at first we thought she might be deaf as she never barked. Now she's quite the house protector and barks to protect her territory. And that's ok with us. She can do quite a few tricks now and loves her "Pupcorn" treats. Petunia is loving and a gread snuggler around mealtime. Thanks so much for saving her life.

While living in Atlanta, my boyfriend convinced me we needed a dog. When Valentine's Day weekend rolled around, We went to the Barnes and Noble in Buckhead where APR would bring their pets. We immediately fell in love with Nessa, an awkward and unsocialized dog. She was rescued from a trailer with over 200 dogs in South Carolina. The conditions were so bad, over half of the animals had to be put down. I don't think we realized the severity of the situation at the time. The first year was filled with tests on both end. Nessa did not trust a soul and had no domestic pet characteristics. She also didn't understand what toys were. It was extremely trying.

I learned patience, trust and love. This February will be 10 years that Nessa has been my companion and best friend. Each morning I look forward to seeing her sweet face and her tail wag. I didn't see this tail wag for almost a year when i first got her. Everyday is step in the right direction.

Since our days in Atlanta, Nessa has become quite the traveler. I've moved to Colorado and Utah and I spend about 3 months out of the year in Georgia. Nessa tends to travel with me. I believe she thinks it's her job. She flies in planes (on board with me), over nights in hotels and has been coast to coast in a car. She was meant for life on the road!

Nessa is getting a little old but still enjoys long hikes, snowshoeing and trips to the beach.

I adore her so much, she has changed my life.

Although they are getting a little more meat on their bones, they claim they will still fit into their bikinis this summer at the beach. Hi. Just giving you an update on Andy, the Golden maybe mix puppy we adopted. He had a good christmas and loved playing with all the other dogs at the grandparents house. The kids love him and he's settling in. He even likes the cat. Cat doesn't want to be playmates, but they seem to have come to an understanding.

We have renamed him Wilson after the character from House. We are working to puppy proof the house and have got him lots of toys and enrolled him in puppy training. He loves his new home and seems housebroken. He hates going out in the snow so hopefully it will melt soon. It's tough standing out in it with him.

We are working on Wilson's two classic puppy issues: Teething and crating. He chews on everything and everyone all the time and absolutely hates being in his crate. We are confident we can get him through both issues though.

We will post updates later which will hopefully be us raving about his progress and what a model citizen he is. He's a smart and sweet dog. We just need to polish him up some.

So today a stunningly wonderful boxer was adopted by two equally wonderful people. They also happen to be my friends. I've fostered seventy plus dogs for Atlanta Pet Rescue and every time one is adopted you hope they've gone to the great homes they deserve. Today I know that this happened. Brutus was not one of my fosters but what an awesome guy. To know that he as gone to a home where he is truly loved, where he will be treated as an absolute equal, where his new owners will give the structure, the manners, the unconditional love that EVERY dog needs to reach their potential is wonderful. Structure. Manners. Routine. They matter as much to the dog as the unconditional love. Katie and Dharval gained a wonderful friend. Brutus? He aced it. He hit the jackpot. I wish every dog could have what Brutus has found. I hope that my three APR dogs are as lucky as I know Brutus to be. Have a wonderful life together, you deserve each other. Picasso as adjusted quite well. Me and Prince Charming were trying to figure Picasso out. We are still working on it.
The two of them get along pretty well. Some of the things his passed owner said about his bad habits are true to a degree. I think he was crated all day and very lonely. He is a very very sweet dog. Bringing him home has changed my relationship with Prince Charming but, now he has a brother and someone else that can relate to him. They play together and now sleep together sometimes. I am so glad he is part of my family! He loves to go on long walks and is perfect on a leash. Having him I realized how bad and spoiled Prince Charming is. I think we will all be going to school. Picasso is a joy to take care of and I Love him very much! Thank you Atlanta Pet Rescue!!

Our precious little Static has grown up so quickly! It's hard to believe she is a year old now. She's changed so much! She is quite the character, and makes us laugh on a daily basis. She loves her forever brother. She likes to butter him up by licking his ears. After he is good and comfy, she goes in for a little tail pulling. She instinctively hides her raw hides, and we find them in the strangest places days later. She's a fast little booger. Even with her short legs she can nearly out-run her forever brother. I just wanted to give you an update on Gypsy. She is mostly delightful. She has taken to her dog bed quickly and it has become her favorite place. She has ignored our birds so far and I am happy about that. She likes her chew toys. I am getting her a glow in the dark collar because she blends in with our navy carpet. My only concern is that she hates other dogs. We saw some of that behavior at APR. She never barks at home (unless she sees the laundry hamper - she doesn't like that.) Do you have any suggestions about other dogs? She goes absolutely nuts and barks and growls. She must have had a bad experience with other dogs.

I just thought you would like an update on one of your alumnae. We are math and science people so we changed her name to Cosine.

I saw the cutest Chihuahua sitting in a cage hidden away at an adoption event five years and knew that she was the dog for me. I adopted Sugar when I was twelve years old and had just had major surgery done and just wanted a little dog to sit in my lap. I'm seventeen now and Sugar is my precious baby. She still follows me everywhere and just loves to lay under the covers next to me. I'm also now looking to adopt again as my Corgi passed away around a year ago. Hello APR! Just a quick note to say thank you for bringing Daisy into our lives! It's truly like she has been here forever! Since bringing her home on Nov. 6, 2010, she has been nothing but a joy to have. The transition to our home was so smooth, and our three daughters could not love her more! She is so very tolerant of all of their love and affection, sometimes I have to protect her from so much petting and hugging! Her personality has really started to shine through and she has made it very clear that she prefers the couch or a lap and will do nearly anything to chase a ball.

We are so happy to have her and are thankful for all you do!

Chewy wanted to say hello and let you know he is doing well. He is now 6.5 lbs and getting healthier by the day. His last skin scrape showed only 3 mites and they were all dead, so we are eagerly anticipating a clean scrape in January. He is very playful and loves the snow (we are visiting family in Ohio for the holidays).

Attached find a picture from last week taken after he was groomed with his Christmas handkerchief and sweatshirt. He and his sister Sophie love to play and romp around all day.

Happy Holidays!! My Mom said she'd sent this note for me to thank you for taking such good care of me and getting me well so I could find my forever home!

I'm getting to be a very big boy, and Mom says my coat is really soft and shiny, and that I'm one of the sweetest and most handsome cats in town. But I think that's just embarrassing and I wish she'd focus on the more important things, like how high I can jump to catch "Da Bird"! Or how when her friends and family come over, they like me so much because I sit on them, hug and lick them that they want to steal me and take me home with them.

This is the first Christmas for both of them in a home, we got Rascal from APR this summer and Molly from Fulton County Animal Control in March after losing our 2 dogs just days apart last year. We adopted Cam on Tuesday. Just wanted to let you know he is a real sweetie so far.

We have not had to crate him, or even bring the crate up from the basement.

He sleeps wherever he is comfortable, is a non-aggressive eater, and has been left alone for two 15 minute intervals with Mick, our other dog we got from APR. It's quite obvious he was well instructed in his previous home.

He and Mick are already the best of buddies.

That is the reason for the email.

I look at these two beautiful boys and think who would throw them out like they did?

Whatever the answer both we and the dogs are grateful that APR exists.

These great dogs have been given a chance, thanks to APR, and that chance they received got them to their forever homes.

An Update on Murray (formerly Zipper)

One year ago today, we had the incredible opportunity to offer a loving home to one of the fabulous pets at Atlanta Pet Rescue. For months, our family had followed the stories online of the pets available at APR. Murray was one of three pups we had our eyes on. The APR staff was wonderful at assessing our needs and matching us with Murray. Murray (formerly Zipper), hadn't been in Atlanta long, having been brought in from a shelter in Pell City, AL. There was not a lot of information on him, but we somehow knew he was for us.

As it turns out, Murray is the perfect dog for our family. He's gentle and sweet, but loves to play as much as cuddle. Our two boys fell in love with him immediately and easily taught him his basic commands. In July, we adopted a kitten who had been rescued by friends from the side of the highway. Murray accepted the kitten immediately and they have become fast friends.

Thank you APR for allowing us to bring Murray home. We can't imagine our family without him!

Hi Everybody! I've been living with my people, Mike and Cathy, for almost 6 months now, and I'm so happy! We love to go for walks and to the dog park. We spend a lot of time cuddling, especially when I sneak into bed! I took my first obedience class and passed with flying colors.

Mike and Cathy love having me around because I'm so much fun! I love to give kisses and cuddles and I always greet them with a wagging tail. I'm the best companion they could ask for, and they tell me every day how much they love me.

Hi, my name is Cupcake! I was adopted on 12/2/2010. I am happily settled in my new home! It has been a transition, but a great one. I sleep in the room with my dogmom. She's given me a comfy pillow that I love to rest and relax on. I'm full of energy and LOVE LOVE LOVE playing with my toys (especially what used to be a Christmas monkey given to me by APR, now it looks more like road kill). That's alright though, I have more toys to tear apart. Plus, this Christmas I will be getting more toys! I think I take all my energy and aggression out on my toys, because when it comes to my new family, I am the sweetest dog EVER! I love to cuddle, play follow the leader, and venture outside. People keep calling me "CUTE" but that's not my name, it's "Cupcake". I wish I could tell them, but I just play along.

I want affection. It just feels so good. I love giving kisses too! I hope to get out to more dog functions this year so I can meet other dogs like myself. I know my dogmom is doing everything in her power to make sure that I have an equal balance of human time and dog time! She doesn't know but I saw her on the computer looking up events for me to attend with other dogs, meetups is what they call them. I look forward to that!

I saw Santa last night at this elaborate hotel. I had soooo much FUN! There were other dogs there, that I remembered from APR! I couldn't believe my paws! It was good reconnecting with them and telling them in 'doggytalk' what I have been up to this past week. I look forward to seeing them again.

My name is Kaneka or Neka for short. I used to be called Tabitha, but my new mommy and daddy wanted me to have a more "Siamese" sounding name. I love my new name and my new family!

I have a big sister Jazzi who I love very much and she loves me too. She even helps take care of me and plays with me. Jazzi was a shelter kitty too.
