Miss Maggie (formerly Mays)

When I met Maggie at Atlanta Pet Rescue back in April, I was smitten. She has the softest fur and the sweetest face. I brought her home hoping she'd be a good fit for me and my cat, Hefner.

Maggie quickly found lots to love at my house! She loves her morning walk through the neighborhood. She loves sniffing Hefner (who is way too cool to notice). She loves her stuffed carrot and fancy dog bed. She loves keeping an eye on the neighborhood from the sunporch. And, as you can see from the picture, she even loves boat rides! :)

Maggie is a pure joy and such a good girl. Everyone who meets her adores her - and she adores them right back. I feel so lucky to have found her. Thanks, Atlanta Pet Rescue!

My Little Conehead

Hi APR -
Just wanted to share a few photos of Maxwell.

He is wearing a cone right now because his allergies make him itchy. The cone does not slow him down at all. He LOVES to ride in the car and hang his head out the window, cone included. Other drivers laugh at us and sometimes they take his picture. I always knew he was a star.

Maxwell sends kisses to everyone at APR, including beloved foster mom!

Minnie (formerly Nilla)

Minnie (formerly Nilla) has been a part of our family for a year (can't believe it's been that long). When we adopted her last June she was in pretty bad shape (photo 1). Within the first few months she made great progress and by six months she was a new dog (photo 2). Her high energy took some getting used to considering our two other dogs are pretty laid back. But she keeps us laughing and brings out the playfulness in her brothers. We can't remember life without her. She LOVES to play and be held. Now if only we can teach her to calm down on cue :-) She's also known for burrowing under the covers when it's time for bed. This is our second adoption through APR (Jojo, a Yorkie, was adopted in 2003 - photo 3). Thank you APR for all the work you do. We're all happier for it!

Jackie

Jackie is still doing great!

He lets us sleep in the morning, plays with us in the evening and loves to watch TV. He is a very sweet cat and very involved and interested in everything what we do. Florian's parents are currently in ATL but they haven't seen Jackie yet - as soon as new people approach the house, he hides under our bed until they left the house :-)

Attached two pictures: his new favorite toy and his carrot (he uses it as a pillow at night and puts his head on).

Hope you and the shelter is doing well.

Have a great day!

Gaby.

Wally & Buzz Oliver

Hi!
I thought you'd like an updated photo of the two kitties we adopted last year, thanks to y'all. Wally (of the Cleaver litter), a Siamese mix, was adopted by us in February 2009, and Buzz Oliver was adopted in December 2009. They're both healthy and happy and get along very well with each other, and they do fine with our dog, Sweet Pea.

So thanks again!

Sissy (Faith)

Sissy (Faith) has been the perfect addition to our family. We were looking for a new companion for our grieving Boston Terrier, Lucy, and Sissy has more than filled our wants and needs. The girls were instantly friends; Lucy has already returned to her old self now that she has a playmate. Sissy is loving, sweet, playful and eager to please. We are fine tuning her potty training, and she has fully recovered from a nasty kennel cough. The children were thrilled to discover that she already knew tricks. The biggest problem that we have encountered is deciding who gets to sleep with her! Thank you for providing us with such a precious new member to our family!

Fiona & Chandler

As I write this, Fiona (Christa) and Chandler (Billie) are enjoying the mountain air in North Carolina. Fiona is becoming less and less timid each day and has actually barked at passing neighbors as they walk or drive past our cabin. Chandler is a very bright boy and is very inquisitive and very playful. He has a few favorite toys that we brought with us from home and he keeps us busy with them. Even Fiona was seen "playing" with a ball on the screen porch yesterday. Right now both are laid out on the porch with me taking a snooze. We are very pleased that we have been able to provide them with a home. They adjusted very quickly to our home and both have slept through the night since we brought them home. Chandler has been a bit picky about eating, but in the last day or so seems to have found his appetite. Fiona, on the other hand, doesn't have that problem - she loves to eat!!

We took both Fiona and Chandler to to our vet on Monday. Both have kennel cough - Fiona has a terrible case and Fiona also has conjunctivitis. He also told us he thinks Fiona is closer to 10 years old than five, but I know you were relying on the truth from the breeder who surrendered her and we know how that works. We don't really care - we have bonded with them and liove them dearly. It is hard to believe we have not yet had them a week!!!

You all do a great job taking care of and finding homes for so many animals that could end up without someone to love them. You can count on our support from a monetary standpoint as well as any help we can provide with events or from home.

Thanks again for enriching our lives.

Update: Bella & Leo

It's been almost 3 weeks since I adopted Bea (formerly Bella) and Chance (formerly Leo). I can't believe how quckly the time has flown! The resident dog now loves the kitties and tries to play with them all the time. Chance is still afraid of Toula and runs under the bed when she tries to play with him, but Bea rolls around on her back and plays right back. The two kitties LOVE to play, and I call 10pm the "witching hour" as I am guaranteed to find them pouncing on each other and chasing one another throughout the apartment at 10pm on the dot!! Although I never would have guessed it, I am even becoming one of those "cat ladies" and I have a cat tree arriving tomorrow for them to climb and sleep on!

The kitties did have to go to the vet last week because they had nasty "funk" in their ears, but it wasn't ear mites so the vet will re-check them next week when they go back for their booster shot. Otherwise they are very happy and healthy kitties!!

Thanks for the new additions to my family, APR!

PS - The picture is of the kitties curled up sleeping on me while I was watching TV one afternoon.

JoJo (formerly Hoochie)

We adopted JoJo May 29, and could not be happier. She is a perfect match to mine and my husband's temperament and energy level. For that, we thank you for the accurate information on your website, and for the interview and adoption process.

JoJo was nervous when we first brought her home, but within a few hours she had become my shadow. She is still not so sure about my husband, but we can see a little more trust each day. We are both impressed with her good behavior, and she has such a keen ability to know when it's okay to rip and romp, and when she should relax. In less than a week, she has endeared herself to us with her sweet ways. We are happy that we are able to provide her a good home. She has brought joy into our lives.

I thought you might like to see some photos of JoJo in her new home.

The Gnarly Charlie

We adopted Charlie (formerly Berkley) in February. He was so quiet and shy at the adoption facility, but as sweet as can be with his big floppy feet and huge ears. My husband and I fell in love with him at APR. I had a doberman growing up as a kid and knew they are excellent dogs, but never knew exactly how excellent Charlie was when we met him. We took him home, and instantly he found the sofa, of course! For about the first two weeks, I was extremely concerned because his 'nub' would never be straight out. I thought it was similar to Shamu's situation because of Charlie being indoors. But, as he realized that this is his forever home his nub pokes out and wags frantically. He became more comfortable with us, and soon learned to play hide and seek. I never had seen a dog that became more excited at a game of hide and seek. Everytime we come home, he does what we call his excited dance/run. He runs in circles and really fast and enjoys being encouraged by us chanting "go g
o go!" He loves being the center of attention. We love taking him to the park! We know because of him being in a foster home and being at a shelter, he gets along with other dogs really well. In fact, he loves dogs of all sizes, the smaller the better. He is beyond a social butterfly at the park. He greets every single human along with every dog. He loves small children and enjoys giving anyone, especially those at his height, kisses on the face. His training that he received before we adopted him has been a blessing. He lets us know that he has to go to the bathroom by pacing around the door or standing at the door. He willingly goes in his crate when we leave for work, even though he is slightly enticed with his treat that he gets. We also didn't know we would be getting a free alarm clock! He wakes us up every morning when he needs to go out, and if we do not hear him yawn loudly like an old man, he jumps on the bed and hovers like a vulture until we are awake. He loves w
atching movies with us or helping us in the garden dig up we!
eds (may
be we can train him to mow the lawn!). Since he has been with us, we have taught him to sit, shake, and lay down. We are working on the stay command and 'off'. He is really good about plush toys, but it took us about a handful to figure out which one he won't tear off the ears, tails, or arms of (basically the fuzzy ambiguous bone toy at Petsmart). Bathtime with Charlie is always an adventure. At first, he acts like a kid who refuses to take a bath and tries to run away or pull away from us. Then he just stands there when he gets used to the fact that he is being washed and acts like an angry teenager. When we are done washing him he gets really excited like he won the lottery and runs and jumps everywhere. He loves getting dried off and will sit still without any pressure. We are so grateful that we found such a wonderful companion we know will be fine when we have kids, and will welcome a puppy friend (once he is over this shoe stealing age). Thank you APR for helping us f
ind the right pet for us and the right home for Charlie.

PS- He may be a doberman, but we feel like he is part vulture, kangaroo (for his jumping), raptor (for when he is mouthing us playfully), cat (when he thinks he is small enough to sit on our lap), dolphin (because he noses us a ton) and human (because he thinks he should pick up a tennis ball with his paws instead of his mouth).
