Vinny (formerly Kenny)

I adopted Kenny last week....Just wanted to give you an update.

I was told he had lived at the shelter or in a foster home all of his life. He is just too adorable and has brought so much love & enjoyment into my home. I named him Vinny because it sounded similar to Kenny. He loves to empty the toy box at the house & the lobster is his favorite.

I work in a veterinary hospital & he has gone to work with me several days and loves all the attention there. My mother goes to an adult daycare center & I have taken him there as well. He went around and greeted everyone happily. I was concerened that he'd be scared but he is like a greeting ambassador no matter where he goes he loves everyone.
He is a perfect fit!

Vinny & Ozzy, my Yorkie/Terrier-orize everything. Vinny tried to attack a toad stool on a walk the other day, and has the most adorable bark. He will bark at things then run behind me. Its so cute!
Everyone asks what he is.... I believe he was listed as a Biewer Yorkie, but I am more inclined to believe he is a powder puff Chinese Crested/Yorkie mix. Whatever he is, he couldn't be more perfect or loved. I feel fortunate & blessed that he came into my life.

I would like to commend Clay for being both professional and compassionate the day we came in to meet Vinny. I know he was truly concerned that Vinny may never overcome the shyness that he showed that day we visted, but Vinny is the total opposite of what he was that day. There really didn't seem to be a period of adjustment or awkwardness upon arrival into his new home. It was like he had always been a part of my furry family.

I know you all must wonder at times whatever happened to this pet or that pet after their adoption, I know I would! I just wanted to update you on his happily ever after, forever home story.

Thanks so much,
Rebecca M.

Sophie Adkisson

This adoption story is a little late in coming but we just wanted to let everyone know what a great adoption experience we had at Atlanta Pet rescue. Everyone at Atlanta Pet Rescue is very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and has lots patience.
Sophie is the sweetest dog that you will ever meet. Always loving and affectionate. Eveyone that sees her instantly falls in love with her. She just spent a week with us on vacation at Hilton Head Island. She enjoys riding a bicycle with me in a child carrier and loves walks on the beach in the morning.

Benjamin (aka Benji)

Thank you so much for all your help, this has been a great experience. Benji just had a bath and he's bouncing around the house!

Cheers!
Shellie J.

Juno gets a new home and a brother!

We have a year old boy Doberman and we've been thinking about getting him a sister for a while now.

When we got word that APR had gotten in a female Doberman, we knew we had to head in to see her.

Juno was so cute and energetic when we saw her!

We thought that she'd be a perfect match for our Maccabee and we adopted her two days after we first saw her.

Juno and Maccabee have so much fun running and chasing each other all over the backyard and they play nicely together inside the house.

They are inseparable and love to give each other kisses and snuggle.

Thank you APR so much for our new wiggly bundle of love!

Simon

Simon is settling in and I wanted to share some cute stories. There wasn't even a hint of growling or hissing when Simon and I got home. Androclese let out a few high pitched meows I've never heard before (quite hopeful and excited sounding). Then Andro followed Simon all over the condo. At one point, Andro lost track of him and started crying. Within an hour, Andro was cooing at him, calling him over when he wanted Simon close. Andro also has a sharp tone he uses when he's ordering Simon around. Simon doesn't mind a bit - may or may not pay attention to it. It's just the right amount of stimulation for Androclese. I'm so happy!

Simon is most interested in getting in my lap, when he's not napping. He walks right up to Androclese, rubs against him, lays down nearby. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I find them curled up together.

Sweetest Birthday Present

http://www.healthypawsfoundation.org/Adoption/apr-poststory.html

My husband went to Atlanta Pet Rescue to adopt a siamese kitten for me as my birthday gift on August 14, 2010. The one he was going to get was already up for adoption, so he came back and got me and our daughter to come back up there with him. So needless to say that blew the surprise, but we already have a male flame point (Ozzy) that is a year old and we wanted one that was his speed. So as we got familar with the other cats we decided on this kitten that was around 4 months old. Her name was Trixie. Let me just say "That name suites her to the T." Trixie can be up in your business one minute and across the house doing something else and you not even know it. She is the sweetest little girl. Trixie and Ozzy play so well together. If one is sleeping somewhere, we always know the other one isn't very far. She checked out great at the vet. She is so fast at flipping her play mice up in the air. She has just now discovered the ceiling fan today and doesn't know what
to think about it just yet. Just to let everyone know she is doing great and we are so happy she is a part of our family!!

Thanks

Jilly

My husband and I adopted Jilly over 3 years ago. It was the best decision!!! Jilly is the sweetest dog--she loves taking walks, playing with her toys, and loves, loves, loves her belly rubbed! We made a decision that from here on out, we'd only rescue our pups. We recently added to the family with a yorkie rescue from Ohio (Melani). Jilly and Melani are the best of friends!
We are so thankful to Atlanta Pet Rescue for taking care of all those wonderful little guys and gals who need loving homes. Keep up the good work!!!!!

Annie (formerly Lizzie)

My lab/spaniel mix recently passed away at the age of 13 and I was brokenhearted. After a while I realized that it was time to find a new pup. At the recommendation of several friends, I went to the APR website to take a look at all the available pooches. On July 3, 2010, I went to APR in hopes of finding a new friend. It was so crowded that Saturday and most of the pups that I had gone in to look at had already been adopted. YEAH! While I was waiting for my interview, I noticed Annie (Lizzie) standing calmly in the middle of a group of barking small dogs. When Judy asked me who I was interested in visiting with, I immediately pointed out Annie (Lizzie). Annie's foster mom had given her a wonderful review and Annie and I hit it off instantly. She is such a blessing. At 14 lbs. she is the smallest dog I have ever owned and is pure terrier in her funny antics and scrappiness. It has been a wonderful month and a half and I look forward to many more months of joy.

Thank you APR for all that you do and for all your hard work in finding all these pups new homes!

Olive

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we are entering our third week with Olive and there could not have been a better match for us. She is impossibly affectionate and incredibly well behaved. She is, indeed, in her forever home.

Bonnie (formerly Shasta)

We adopted our sweet Bonnie girl in June 2010. We have only had her for two months but she is settling in as a part of the family. We had a little bit of a rough transition with kennel cough, serious fear/anxiety, submissive urination, and some resource guarding but Ken from K9 Coach helped us through most of the behavior issues once she was well. Every day she is getting more and more confident, especially on our walks! She can now walk on a leash and encounter other people/pets calmly. She is super smart and has already learned sit, lay down, "touch", play dead, leave, drop it, and shake! She is a sweet, funny girl and not a day goes by that she doesn't have us cracking up about something. She is learning to love sleeping in her own bed and she LOVES her squeaky toys. Her absolute favorite thing is being petted or snuggling! If you won't let her in your lap she will lay across your feet just to be near you. Thanks for rescuing this sweet, funny girl.

Spike

I have attached photos of Spike. He is doing well, and is out on the patio with me exploring while I work. He spends most of his time purring and kneading. It was difficult to get pictures of him, because he's usually underfoot or laying next to me. Spike is a talker, and he likes his opinions to be heard. He is doing so much better here; I just think the shelter was way too stressful. Spike is the shining example of a perfect older cat. I'm so lucky he's mine, and I think Spike is very happy to finally have a forever home. Many thanks to you and the Atlanta Pet Rescue volunteers for taking care of him. It's obvious Spike was a loved cat, in his previous home and while at the shelter.

Sincerely, Thea

I wanted to let you guys know that Mack is on the Top 20 list for Atlanta Magazine's competition for their November Pet issue. The first round had 450 pets submitted to the competition and Mack made it through as a semi finalist.

Mack has been great since we adopted him back in April. Thank you for having such a wonderful organization at Atlanta Pet Rescue.

Here is the link below if you would like to vote for Mack. If he gets first place, he will be on the cover of Atlanta Magazine.

Reeses and Buttercup (formerly Margie and Lois)

After much looking for a kitty for our young kids, we found Lois and Margie at APR and ended up with both of them, though 2 cats were not in the plan. They are very sweet girls and very patient with the children, which isn't always easy with cats. Buttercup (tabby) tends to be a little more on the skittish side, but when she decides it's time to be affectionate, she's all over you! Reeses (1/2 and 1/2 face) is the least skittish cat I have ever seen - nothing makes her jump. Our 3 year old can be right in her face going nuts and she just sits there.

Reeses is our funny one - extremely curious... has to know what everything is, sometimes fetches objects and walks around carrying them in her mouth looking to play, and the latest is she pants like a dog after a lot of ball chasing. Her meow is hilarious - especially considering her size, consisting of a series of high-pitched mini-squeaks. Reeses is also obsessed with food and the pictures don't show it, but she's significantly larger than Buttercup. Even so, Buttercup has no problem "taking her" in their cat play. They still play like kittens, complete with booty wags, wrestling, somersaults, wild chases from one end of the house to the other (over and under furniture), and then occasionally licking of each other in between.... then going right back into smacking each other on the forehead.

I know quite a few people were involved in bringing these girls to APR. There are so many out there with big hearts who rescue these animals on a daily basis. Thanks for being there for so many animals who need you.

Biscotti (formerly Sandy)

I adopted "Sandy" in January 2005, he was 11 months old. Shaggy and dirty, I put him in my back seat and off we went. Just wanted to share a photo of him and let you know that this dog is the center of my life. His name is Biscotti now. I can't thank you enough for letting
me have this baby.

Thanks

Scout (formerly Drea) and an Unexpected Journey

Our story is longer than many, but I hope that those browsing this website will take time to read it. In particular, I hope that Karen, the volunteer who helped us adopt our dog, will read our story!

In December 2009 we met Drea (now Scout) -- but only because the dog we had chosen on the website had already been adopted. We had not been drawn to her website photo -- and we hadn't given her a thought until we walked in and saw her -- a patient little dog, calmly sitting and observing all the action; scruffy with black and white wiry fur, a curly tail, terrier ears, and bright eyes.

We love her so much! Even my husband, a "cat person," has been taken in by her sweet and loving disposition. We were told she would be a great family pet -- which has indeed been the case. My daughters adore her and it is mutual -- and additionally, Scout loves everyone who comes in the house...wagging her curly tail furiously at each new visitor's arrival. And despite a relatively calm nature, she shows plenty of spunk when the mood strikes her.

We had an unexpected turn of events, however, when a couple of months after her adoption, she came up lame. She demonstrated apparent pain in her left hind leg and an unwillingness to use it. After numerous vet visits and a specialist diagnosis, it was determined that Scout had sustained a hip fracture as a young puppy (she was 8 months when we adopted her) and that it had not healed properly. All of our walks and jogs and doggie playdates worsened her pain. I was shocked to realize that Scout had lived with chronic pain so long, never complaining and probably not remembering any other way. Surgery, as soon as possible, was the best option for her.

She underwent a hip procedure called a femoral head ostomy (FHO) on May 11, 2010, and as I write this we are coming up on the 3 month anniversary of her procedure. She graduates from doggie rehab today (it is her 12th and final visit to a special rehab center). Our summer has been extremely focused on strengthening her leg and bringing it as close as possible to full function. We have progressed from heating and icing regimens and 5 minute walks to 40 minute walks with short bouts of jogging...and at this point she appears to be pain-free and loving life. She is still a few months from total healing, and ensuring proper use and exercise of her leg will be a lifelong undertaking for our family.

We are glad that she found our family because we were able to help her with her needs. Her surgery and recovery have been expensive and extraordinarily time-consuming. However, she has already brought so much happiness to our family, and we appreciate her all the more after having traveled this unexpected journey together. There is something incredibly touching about watching an animal persevere through a surgical recovery.

I would like to thank APR for the care given to Scout while she lived there for two months, and for welcoming our interest in adopting a pet. I appreciate all of the "screening" of prospective owners, as I have now learned how much of a commitment a new pet can be. Since another shelter recommended we get a "stuffed dog" when I mentioned a concern over allergies...I especially appreciate APR for treating us with respect and helping us adopt this precious little animal that is now a member of our family.

Since I have this opportunity, I would also like to mention Dr. Lori McDougal, the orthopedist at GVS who was Scout's surgeon, and Jonna Kanable, the therapist at Atlanta Animal Rehab who has overseen Scout's rehab, and who has counseled me week after week after week -- answering my endless questions and encouraging patience on my end and compliance with Scout's PT regimen.

Butter Bean (formerly Marlie)

We adopted our love Marlie (nicknamed 'Butter Bean') on Wednesday Aug 4th. She has adjusted so well in our household and is getting friendly with our outdoor cat, Shorty. Marlie loves her pink fluffy bed (see attached) and gets so much attention. We are still working with her desire to crawl all OVER us but she is very smart and sits before she eats and goes for a walk. Her incision is healing and she will be ready to have them removed on Friday.

I am attaching the pics that you took of us at your house when we made it all official. Thank you so much for all of your help - we absolutely LOVE her & she is really happy in her new home!

Looking forward to your 10 year anniversary in Grant Park!

In vibrant health,
Jennifer Hnat & Tim Dembowski

Papi

We adopted Papi (better known as Scout) a week ago today! It feels like he has always been a part of our family. He gets along so well with our other two chihuahuas. We were told when we adopted him that he had some food agression. As you can see by the photos there no longer seems to be a problem. He has a HUGE personality for how tiny he is. He loves to cuddle and jump up on the kitchen table to try to grab a piece of food. My family and I love the breed and therefore had been looking for another chihuahua to add to our pack. We fell in love with a little guy at a pet store. After doing some research on the internet and watching a lot of the Animal Planet shows we chose to look into a rescue. We are so lucky we did, because I truly think that Papi was waiting for us. We would like to thank the shelter for such a wonderful experience. Everyone there was so caring and truly dedicated to these animals. We will definately be back in the future!

The Schuler Family

P.S.
Hi friends at Atlanta Pet Rescue. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am that you found me a new family. My brother Wedgie and my sister ChiChi are so much fun to play with. I cuddle up with them every night (except when my human friends have me up on their bed)! I couldn't be any happier. I am living the best dog life ever! Woof Woof! PAPI

Mollie (formerly Yvette)

Hello Everyone at Atlanta Pet Rescue. I'm embarrassed at how long overdue I am in sending this email. I am contacting you to update and let you know how much I love my wonderful 'Mollie'. I adopted Mollie, my Yorkie-Poo in October 2005 from APR when I lived in Marietta, GA. At the time, you took her in, you called her 'Yvette'.

Mollie brought much love and laughter to me and my Yorkie, Max in 2005. She was a bit intimidating to Max at first but loved to play and tease him as she became accustomed to her new home. As I was signing the adoption papers for Mollie, I saw the word 'destructive' behavior but did not let that stop me from taking her home to foster and later adopt. Once I got her home, there was no letting her go! She has been the joy of my life ever since she arrived. We snuggle and play everyday and she sleeps with me too, even though I know that's considered a 'no-no' by some people. She is a very good traveler and always ready to go for a ride. She is loved and adored by everyone that meets her and she thrives with all the attention she gets.

Mollie and I Iost Max, who now waits for us at 'Rainbow Bridge' in 2008. We grieved together but have many fond, loving memories of Max and will never allow his memory to fade.

Mollie and I now live in Destin, FL. I am writing this today after returning with Mollie from her annual checkup where she received a very good report. She is now 5+ years old and weighs 11.5 pounds! We continue to be best of pals and I wanted you to know that my Mollie is one of the 2 most devoted friends I've ever had. I hope your other adopting families find their best friends too at APR!!!

Kindest Regards,

Yvonne P.
